Our RB room

100% - they return some good guys. IIRC, their Achilles heel is against the passing game.

No. They have elite DEs and the best CB in CFB. Safeties are talented and deep and the other CBs are pretty good as well. The only place they are not elite is at DT and they are pretty good there.

I meant their LBs are vulnerable in the passing game

Notre Dame will have a insanely tough defense. The game plan better come prepared, if not I don't care who lines up at RB were screwed. I don't see much success pounding heads with them. I don't think that's a match up we can deal with.

Is this RB group good enough to run on ND? The OL should be able to at least go toe to toe with ND’s DL. Do we have the backs to punish Norte Dame?

This game will come down to stopping the run and our run game, as ND’s secondary is excellent IMO.

Thoughts?
Yes.

I don’t think we stop Love from getting 130 yards. It’s just can we stop him from going for 175 yards. Love is an absolute animal and we have to show these LBs can tackle before I think we can do a **** thing. I just don’t know what ND brings back on defense I thought I saw their secondary will be very good again.
Gotta keep those big runs to the 15-20 yd range. Can’t let one break for 50 plus. Overall Think we’ll look different athletically & speed wise. He's a tough back. Best we’ve faced since Kenneth Walker MSu

The thing about run defense is, no matter how good a team is at running the ball, you can always outnumber them. The team that wins is going to be the team that forces the opponent to play the pass. Notre Dame will likely be starting a redshirt freshman who has never started a college game. We should dare them to throw the ball.

Every RB on our team save Brown was a 4 star RB out of high school. Every single one. Lyle was considered a top 5 RB in the country, and #1 by some rankings. If that is not good enough to have a strong running game behind our OL, then we have big problems up and down our roster with highly rated kids who are nowhere as good as their high school ratings.
I forgot about that was it On3 that had him as the #1 back in the nation?

And my only point is that we can’t complain about talent at certain positions; RB being one, along with Oline, DB, DE and QB if Beck says healthy. And at WR our only real complaint should be about experience as we have a bunch of 4 and 5 star guys.

I am waaaaay more concerned anb our defense stopping their run game than vice versa.

He’s never thrown a pass in a game. He is going to be a very good QB, but that night they will be run heavy, short passes and deep shots. They will have trick plays on both offense and special teams. Probably be a fairly low scoring game.

Our best back this season will be better than our best back last season and our 3rd back this season will be better than our 3rd back last season; I expect the offseason development for RBs & OL to show up against ND.

Defensively we have to be sound but I think we can manage their offense. By all accounts they'll have a 1st-time starter at QB and we have the DBs to win more 1 on 1 battles than we did last season.

Mario did a good job addressing areas of weakness from last season.

Both teams have good running games. Notre Dame was 4th nationally in yards per carry and we were 5th.

We will miss Martinez, but Lyle and Fletcher combined for 1,007 yards (6 YPC) and 13 TDs last year. Both have the physical tools to hold up against real defenses. I'd give Notre Dame the edge on paper because of Love's explosiveness but it's close.

The real separator will be run defense. Both teams have new defensive coordinators for different reasons. Huge game for guys like Justin Scott and Wesley Bissainthe.
D- Money do you see it like I Do , Marty Brown changes The dynamics of RB room because he Can Pound & Punish Defenses with Fast ball Pringle & Hellcat The homerun hitters. Much like Michigan Two year ago.

We don’t know that , Love will be # 1 Target 🎯 to Stop ✋ & Force The game on Carrs Hand. We May stuff him & yet he can have an 80 yarder. So if you Contain Love
Ohio St did it & Rilley made Love more Lethal Because he was a Second running threat with the Option bieng a threat.
**Where Love scares me is In the Passing Game, he Line up strictly at WR for Spring
.You may stop him on the Ground & the Short passing Game as extended hang off.
I’m 💯 sure Carr will check down passes to Love.

Brown gives us more options because he can absorb carries and keep the offense moving. He doesn't make many negative plays.

We played with two backs at times last year and I think we should do more of that. Fletcher and Lofton are physical enough to act as fullbacks but also have the ability to run. Either one fits on the field with a smaller, faster guy like Pringle.

How tou feeling about Pringle? Ik it was jist spring game highlights but dude showed he was shifty, quik.. looked like a football player. Think he will be a perfect change of pace RB.

Every time i watched notre dame their run defense didn’t look great, idk if they were young but the dline looked small..Maybe because of the opponents but im not worried about running the ball on them at all i think we will.

But they have the best secondary we will face all year by far and our wr room is meh and inexperienced and it will be the first big game they play in, and it’s beck’s first game after injury and surgery.

At some point we will have to pass to keep drives alive, dawson has a tendency to predetermine the run so we will have to convert 3rd and mediums on their secondary.
