OT: Ultra Miami the new Fyre?

It's funny how people who smell like foot and *** are so defensive about stinking and their rights to do so in large groups.

I for one, appreciate any warning of any pending foul nasal event.

So Knowing dates time and location is great.

I call it being polite....in contrast to doing something like... unleashing a huge fart on an elevator on a lower floor, getting off and telling the rest of the passengers going up to have a nice trip.

I'd prefer having the option to avoid being hit by smelly sh*t

I left key Biscayne at 4AM after an 8 hour poker session and was stuck in traffic until the big bridge at 4:50AM

Complete **** show

Comparing that to Fyre is ridiculous. One festival promised luxury housing and food, and delivered the equivalent of a FEMA camp instead (with no concert). The other had bad traffic issues.

I tried Ultra while I went to UM.... Waited 2+ hours for the metro to get back to campus (pretty sure it runs late that weekend). Basically the same thing. This is people complaining to try and go viral.

Every music festival has stuff happen like that. Maybe not to the level of Fyre but it definitely happens. U get tens of thousands of drunk and high people in one place and things will go awry everytime.

Those Fyre documentaries are hilarious. If you ever get a chance watch them. I know one is on Hulu I think the other one is on Netflix

Fyre was a shlt show and con job of epic proportions that won’t soon be duplicated.

They are both recommended to watch as companion pieces to one another.

Suggested format...Netflix documentary first...Hulu documentary next. Netflix is definitely more fun and light-hearted. Hulu's doc is more focused on the macro takes of influencer culture.

For some reason I saw the Hulu one first, but I understand your overall point. It’s been a couple of months, so I couldn’t really distinguish either one of them at this point, they are both sort of jumbled up in my memory. But your take is interesting.

My overarching takeaway, based on an admittedly jumbled and non-discriminating memory, is the incredible audacity of the conman behind it. The guy was extremely talented for being so young, extremely energetic, extremely motivated, and extremely sociopathic from a white-collar crime perspective.

Sorry Canedog I ended up falling asleep after being up all night. Glad you figured out what Ultra was. I was worried I would get hammered for this post but instead this was all interesting to read. I agree that comparing Ultra to Fyre is ridiculous and the fact that many chose to just sit and be stranded instead of walking was just as ridiculous. I just hated seeing people trashing Ultra (mainly rival venues) because the talent packed into those three days every year is insane and everything started with Ultra festival wise right in the city of Miami. I love Ultra without needing anything other than a drink to enjoy it. Looking forward to 2 more nights! I was a little worried that some of our guys might be there. I forgot to put that in my original post.

This whole "disaster" narrative was already obvious and ready to be rolled out today months ago.

What's the actual horror? A tree caught on fire and a bunch of people on recreational drugs had to walk a couple of miles at 1am.

I kinda feel like they should just offer no transportation to the event from here on out and just tell people that if you can't walk like 2 miles then you ain't healthy enough for this party anyway.
That’s a ******* dumb take

Oh, I done googled it. It a music festival. I don't give a sh*t about such things; but power to those who does!
thjnk hoards of scantily clad attractive women, many in a chemically induced state of friendliness.

That’s what college aged kids see, and why a festival like Ultra in their own backyard is just another tool to sell recruits.

You must be the kinda guy that'd have a mental breakdown and be threatening lawsuits on Twitter at 1am if you had to walk 2.8 miles back to "civilization".

The only "******* dumb take" is pretending people in other cities don't walk at least that far after baseball/soccer/etc games.

Did Ultra from 2011-2013 during the glory years of EDM. Good times. Over that **** now. Everyone and their mother knew Virginia Key was a terrible place to do it from a transportation perspective, but hey city of Miami wants to make that $$$...

Need some help...

A week ago I debated asking if anyone thought that moving Ultra to Virginia Key was a terrible idea. Ultra has been discussed on here numerous times but I ultimately decided I didn’t really want to post anything outside of spring practice. Now I wish I would have just gone ahead and posted after how badly things went down after the first night. Possibly upwards of 100k+ ended up stranded due to shuttle congestion and metro congestion. Well... technically not stranded if they chose to walk back. I felt this might happen and my reasoning for originally considering posting was thinking about a similar mess if we had built a stadium at Tropical Park.

Anyway, I hope they get things straightened out because I hate seeing the origin of Ultra getting trashed as many are rushing to do. Thanks to Ultra the 🙌 is thrown up worldwide and even though they don’t understand its origin, it’s still pretty awesome to see. The city has been giving them **** for years so I hope this isn’t the death blow.

Btw anyone local looking to make some extra cash might want to be an Uber for the weekend lol.

Never been to Ultra, but can attest to the festival making the U recognizable world wide - literally.

While in Copenhagen, I visited the Freetown Christiania (look it up, pretty crazy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freetown_Christiania). When buying a cookie from a masked man in a makeshift booth behind military style camouflage netting, the guy got all giddy when he saw my hat and started talking about how much he loves Miami because of Ultra. My wife had absolutely no idea what was happening, and neither did I about an hour later after eating the cookie.
