OT: Truly A Sad Day (RIP)

The Mayfair was originally a shopping mall/hotel development, and the department store piece of it quickly tanked. For a few years, that's where Planet Hollywood was located.

After most everything in there went under, they tried to cut it up a bit and redevelop into something less monolithic.

I preferred Cocowalk, with Dan Marino's, Baja Beach Club, Fat Tuesdays, Cheesecake Factory, Cafe Tu Tu Tango, Howl at the Moon, etc.

Where is the mayfair?
I wasn't going to say it because I'm definitely not the "Kids today suck" guy but the undergrad population ticked up in douchie-ness too so Wynwood had more appeal than dive bars like the Vern and even Sandbar.

But that still doesn't negate the pushback from Sarnoff/oldhead and yuppie type Grove residents and the fact that you now could get to other parts of Miami cheap and without fear of a DUI.

Nah Sandbar still a favorite. There's a hierarchy of bars, depending on age. Once kids are actually legal, they head over to Wynwood. Friday happy hour at Monty's is a thing, too...

A friend of mine stored around 32 of his paintings there for the Coconut Grove Art Festival back in 1989. The manager at the time stole everything and bailed. The cops were no help. Probably on the "take" and didn't want to get the bar jammed up in something like this. There was a lot of underage drinking and drug sales going on there at the time.

My friend didn't paint for 10 years he was so upset. He's only got one painting left from that period (see below). He signed everything under the name "Griffin" - his "nom de plume" back then. Who knows where the others are today?

Lmao. I hope some day you are well enough mentally to understand how ridiculously stupid what you just typed is.
I hope one day you’ll stop ducking my question and tell us why you’re mysteriously not ****ed about how god forsaking awful this program has become? Only a troll would be happy with where we are, prove your not the troll we all Know you are! Lol

Have excellent memories from Tavern, Bowl Bar, Sharp Shooters, Cuda's, Scully's Tavern, Flanigan's (Grove and Hialeah), Tobacco Road, BT's, Hooligan's, Monty's, Foxhole, Booby Trap.

Place is only 33 years old? I was over 50 when it opened no wonder I don't remember it. Crap I am old. RIP. Hey is Caribbean Club down in Key Largo still open? I loss millions of brain cells and part of my liver down there. It was a dive but wow was it fun.

No, it opened in the '50s. I think the new owners have had it for 33 years.

Whenever Tavern is brought up I’m taken right back to seeing Steve-o hitting rails on the curb outside. Second favorite memory is having a beer with OJ Simpson on Halloween 2002 talking Michigan vs USC rose bowl game

Grove is near dead now unfortunately. Decent crowds still go on Thursday but not like how y’all are describing it.

Friday is a Montys/Wharf/Rat move. After that it’s personal preference.

Really need a student centric college bar thats just off campus.

Just curious as to whether anyone ever patronized The Organ Grinder, down by The Falls.

Good lord, that was one t-bar that needed a dental plan for the ladies.

Negatory.

Many years ago I was at Landing Strip (long since defunct after a fire) in WPB and one of the girls walks in with staples fresh out the C-Section. My friend, I nearly lost my lunch.

I, unfortunately patronized that particular, ahem, ... "establishment", back in the day. I believe it got its name from the fact that men would rather stick their "organs" into a grinder than anything that danced in that place. 🤢

I'm not so sure there was or ever will be another bar in the country that size that had that amount of college and NFL greats as patrons and even occasional bartenders. So many stories like that about Gino.

We once sat and discussed Shockey's draft stock for like an hour there on a Tuesday night.....with Shockey....as he mooched pitchers of Miller Lite.

Then there was the night OJ showed up too.

I'm really gonna miss puking in and on that filthy filthy bathroom.

I’m happy to have a pitcher of beer with you and discuss our players’ draft stock...

Get the invites out to the Juniors. I’ll order up a few rounds of What the **** are you thinking?!

Why is this not Titanic?

Best place in the Grove late 90’s/early 2000’s was Murphy’s Law on Thursday night! Anyone remember that? I used to have my most fun nights as a UM student there on Thursday's, better than South Beach on the weekend!
