I think Herman is a promising coach. We'll see how he does at Texas when he has to spend 22 hours a day massaging the nuts of billionaire donors who demand that a certain player start or the bag man won't be visiting particular recruits. Might turn out to be an NFL caliber coach, but would not have been a good fit at Miami because we needed a coach who knows how to recruit Miami and has established relationships with the high school coaches in Florida. Shannon and Golden, by all accounts, destroyed Miamis reputation with a lot of Florida schools. You can say a lot of things about Richt, but is one of the best with establishing trust with parents and coaches. Second the negative recruiting would be too easy for someone like Saban - "Sure he's a hot shot coach, but what's his track record in a major conference?" or "As soon as he gets a taste of success he'll jump to a bigger school or the NFL just like every other Miami coach who used the school as a stepstool." I mean if you guys want to have wet dreams about another teams coach, then by all means, enjoy your rubber sheets. We hired the non P5 hot shot non-Florida outsider last time around and you can see how that turned out. Miami is not one or two players away from competing for a national championship. This is a total rebuild. To do that, we needed a coach who already knows the most promising 9th,10th, and 11th graders in Florida football. Had to be Richt or someone like him (I would have also liked Charlie Strong, who built a great team in Louisville with mostly Florida talent). But even in the. 001% chance that Herman would have accepted a job here, let's assume he was a genius and had the teams offense clicking. Based on his track record, he beats teams like FSU and UNC, then drops games to FAU and App State. Or he has us at 11-0, cruising for a playoff spot, then gets blown out by Duke the last game of the season. This is what his 19-3 career has shown so far.
