Ot: tom herman is no savage

A lot of people in this thread are going to look very stupid in 2-3 years.

The difference is people want to crown Herman now after two years yet dump on Richt, forgetting that they will probably have identical W-L records for their first two years as head coaches when the season is over. Richt won the SEC title and beat FSU to finish #3 in the country in year 2, Herman just lost to SMU and Navy. Time can change a lot of perceptions. If it turns out he's awesome, great, then he wasn't fools gold. At this point it's still too early to find out if year one was real or a fluke and this year is a better measure of his Savageness. Big programs like Texas can take a risk and pay a relatively unproven coach crazy amounts of money because if he turns out to suck, they can afford the buyout in year 2 or 3and turn around and hire another expensive coach. If Miami swings and misses on a 5 million dollar coach and owe him 15 million if you fire him, best start looking for high school coaches who want to coach D1 cuz that's all we'll be able to afford. Miami needed a low risk coach with an established track record. That being said Richts success in his first two seasons as a head coach (SEC title) are more impressive than Hermans even assuming Herman (American conference title) wins the rest of his games this season.

I have never said that Richt needs to be fired. I've said he needs to hire an OC.

I think we could be successful with a good guy at OC, Diaz at DC and Richt as the CEO.

This.

Why? Years won't change what Rick has done with the offense this year. Merely accumulating enough players to overcome your inept playcalling in a few years proves nothing.

I'm talking about those hating on Herman.

And I've been 100% on the "Richt needs to hire an OC" train since the UNC game. His offense is a disgrace.

What part of "Herman is a lame duck" sounded inconclusive? Do you have a reason for why he choked away the season with the same roster?

Being a lame duck, even if you're using the term incorrectly, isn't an excuse for not having your team prepared. Dudes were in position for a playoff spot, but you somehow think the kids gave up? And that it isn't the fault of the coach? Weird.

He's approaching the end of his tenure at Houston. That's exactly the definition of a political lame duck.

You've still not said why you think the season has gone the way it has.

Is Herman seriously going to get a lot of coaching offers if the Cougars finish 9-3?

He may have condemned himself to Houston for another year.

9-3 and he's still the most wanted guy, and it's not close . There'll be a line of ad's at his door with blank checks.

Who inherited a better situation - Herman or Richt?

I think the question should be "Fuente or Richt" considering that's who just beat Richt's a$$.

I mean, at the end of the day, we don't play Herman, we play all these new ACC guys.

So if we have great players who win - but you don't like the play calls - you'll still be mad?

^ should surprise no one if true. There was zero chance of Herman staying at Houston long term -- especially after the Big 12 voted against expanding.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure part of Houston's pitch to getting Herman to stay was that they anticipated getting into the Big 12. So, the vote to not expand is a double-whammy to Houston.

It will be interesting to see if Herman is "the next great one".

Jerrod Evans is 10 times the QB Kaaya is so this answer is easy. One QB has 2k yards passing 63% 21 tds 2 int and almost 500 yards rushing and 4 tds. Its not even close.
