Got an offer from Bryant University just outside of Providence and visited over the weekend. Trying to decide between there and Drake in the next few days and wondered if anyone here was familiar with the school or the Providence area.

I believe Joel Rodriguez was an assistant coach at that school before he went to Fordham and, now, UM.

Surprisingly good nightlife for a very small city. You can get decent BBQ at 4am. Providence and RI in general is somewhat economically depressed. Plenty of rough neighborhoods and a nasty heroin problem. Having said that, Rhode Island is a very beautiful state with great beaches, and it's only an hour from Boston and close to the Cape.

What do you want to know about each? I don't mean to get into your business, but your decision may rest on what you are trying to get to, or get away from. If so, things you want or need might help us give you perspective.

Drake is in near west Des Moines. That is a pretty solid location. Des Moines is the state capitol and is one of the up and coming cities in the country. Drake has had some success with its program, but it varies tremendously. It has very good years, and periods where it sucks bad. Drake is the number 4 basketball program in Iowa and it is private.

I would look at the coaching staff. Are they likely to be there for your four years? If not, what attracts you to the program?

My good friend's son just graduated as QB from Bryant, played three years there. Happy to connect you with him if you'd like to discuss coaching staff/school with him.

Go Bulldogs! Bryant is the better academic choice hands down. Tupper campus is beautiful.

Go Canes

Providence is a great college town also, not to mention bean town is as also a stone throw away from Smithfield.

Providence is a fun little city, plenty of coeds from surrounding schools, Boston is an hour away, beaches, several casinos nearby.

Choose Alumni network and academics in your field over location. Location is temporary, particularly for you (Master's?)....Bryant beats Drake

Bryant is in the suburbs of Providence, maybe 15 miles outside of downtown. Sits right next to a gigantice campus for Fidelity investments and CVS offices ar nearby.
