the song was inspired and written during the war of 1812. the UK didnt end slavery until much later, so to suggest that the battles being fought were to end slavery in america is disingenuous at best. the war of 1812 had several causes, none of which had to do with Britain wanting to free US slaves. in the cases where freed slaves fought for the UK, it was merely done to benefit the UK.. not in the name of some righteous moral duty against slavery. the same way that free black americans fought for the US army, and yet were still treated as second class citizens. i wouldnt praise the US in those circumstances either... and this sadly lasted into WW2 and beyond for us.

the lines that were removed from the song, were done so because they were in reference to animosity towards brittain. and in the time that they were taken out, we were allied with brittain in the first world war. that the word slave was mentioned in those lines had nothing to do with promoting slavery and its removal from the lyrics isnt proof that it was. The UK had slaves fighting for them against the US & they were mentioned in the song, along with the rest of the enemy(britain).

Indentured servitude my guy read a book and most of them had no where to go after their 7 year service was done so they remained “workers” past their 7 year period due to the fact no where to go

Whites were never slaves in America, in North Africa maybe, but never America.

You're confusing convicts from Europe (as most of America was penal colonies) with African chattel slavery.

Besides, I've always thought the term slave was a misnomer...when somebody kidnaps you and holds you against your will and makes you work for free for ransom, you're not a slave, you're a HOSTAGE.

What exactly are you saying here? The ones that choose too focus on such things haven't gone on to live fully enriched lives?? of course you're saying that...I think you need a reality check. You don't get to decide whose living a enriched fulfilled life just bc of what you think they should focus on.

I need to read a book yet's it you who referred to slaves as "indentured servants"...you need a dictionary moron.

All that crying "my people were slaves during that time too" FOH with that make believe **** like we don't know any better between an indetnured servant and a slave.

Still an undergrad lol You’re going to flip a lid in gender studies when you find out Slavery has been around before colonial American and that the continent of Africa sold slaves to North America

I think I’m coming down with eye cancer after reading the little blurb about how it’s a pain to have a day about 9/11
