OT Getting new puppy and need name

LMAO at all the dog experts. My pitbull was never fixed and is as docile as a lamb. The state of Florida has a law against breed specific legislation. Only Miami-Dade has a pitbull ban because it predates the state law. Doesn't matter because you see pitbulls every day in Miami. Yes, it's best to socialize them and get them used to people coming over but you have to do that with any dog. They're great for families and were used as "nanny dogs" for decades.

Remember how sweet it WAS when it's killing you or someone else. Those ****ing dogs should be banished from the face of the earth.

Dogs are only as dumb or as smart as their owner and generally take on the attitude of it's owner. I think my family and I will be just fine and so will everyone else around us.

I'm not trying to talk you out of a pit, because I love dogs 1000 times more than human adults but watch out for those kids if you have any. Get him fixed as soon as possible, it takes some of the steam out of them early. Get those kids to roll around with it as a puppy and good luck with any nutjob adults trying to hurt them when you're not around. Not sure where you live but I think many south Florida cities have banned them, they can ***** with your homeowners insurance too. Just a reminder if you live in SF. GL

I'm up in Norfolk, Va. This is my 3rd one and I have never had any issues. Planning on taking his manhood away soon. :( My wife and I are very good with dogs and we take every precaution with all of our dogs. I would put a dog down before it ever hurt anyone.

We had a 160 pound great Dane, one day while it was eating my little sister went near it's bowl to get something from a cupboard. It was one and right before we took his nuts, the dog cornered her, I had to take a broomstick just to get him away from her. I got him into the living room with a cookie got him by the neck and beat the living **** out of him. It would probably be the wrong thing to do with a pit. He never made a mistake from that day on, just saying they can make mistakes usually early on.

Sorry meant to up vote you. I agree some pits are lovers, my buddy had a huge pit one of the nicest dogs you could find.

What is your point? Pitt Bulls kills less people in two years than Obama's VA does each month?

Why would I make that up? lol

Pit bulls are notoriously awesome with kids. They've been dubbed "Nanny dogs" because of their excellence with kids. So don't listen to the braindead masses.

These are the same chicks fit to emotional histrionics who thought sharks suddenly got more vicious a few years ago because they saw reports of shark attacks on the news as drool trickled down their slack jaws.

It's odd to separate a puppy from his mom prior to 12 weeks, but I'm sure there was a good reason.

We did so because the dog had 14 in the litter and the lady we got him from was completely overwhelmed. The dogs have teeth already and were tearing the mommy up so she wasn't trying to feed them. The lady and her man were just ready to get rid of them so we decided to get him early and take better care of him than they were going to. He weighed 4.8 lbs today at the vet but we will fatten him up quickly. lol

I always get my dogs at 6 weeks. When I get a pup they sleep with me for a few months, usually on my chest. The dog will bond to you, and you become the instant Alpha. I also do my own vaccs so I can be absolutely sure they get all of their shots on time. Six of the last seven dogs I've owned have been pits (one cur back in my hog hunting days) and I've never had a bad one. **** two wouldn't even play bite if you tried to make them. Awesome, awesome dogs if properly raised, socialized and exercised.

Remember how sweet it WAS when it's killing you or someone else. Those ******* dogs should be banished from the face of the earth.
That's extremely ignorant. Those dogs get a bad reputation because of how some low life ppl treat them. Treat a dog to fight and be a killer and that's what it'll be. It's no different from any dog. Treat a German Shepard to kill and that's what's it's going to do

I'm going to completely fry this board's servers by listing every single person killed in a automobile accident. Those things are death traps and should be outlawed everywhere.

American Pitbull terriers have one of the highest temperaments of any breed. I've had generations that run back 60 years. Every dog my family has ever owned was great. It is a very abused and most misunderstood breed. You treat them right and they'll have your back everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. APBT is the only breed for me as far as unconcerned.

This^. Most people wouldn't know how to identify a true pitbull terrier from a hole in the wall, and that leads to a lot of cases of misidentification. They're quite a few dog breeds that people often mistake as a pitbull, and well let's be honest, a news story saying "Pitbull Attack" is going to get more hits than just "Dog Attack". I'm not saying that all pits are innocent at all, but there are more than a few cases that pits have unfairly gotten the blame for. Pits are normally not human aggressive. But bad dogs, usually have bad dog owners, regardless of breed. Some have been abused, starved, trained to fight, giving drugs, fed gunpowder, etc. You take a dog that is really strong, and that has been abused like that.... you're probably gonna have a problem.

A lot of different breeds have the potential to bite and be aggressive...just my impression is that when it's a pit or a similar breed or mix the bite can be much, much worse. I used to see pit bull puppies at the shelter, and some were the cutest, sweetest dogs. They also had a history of one adult pit that mangled a man's arm.

I love dogs, but I still find the breed a little scary when I see one, especially at he dog park. There is one that was really sweet and a great dog, well socialized, at the dog park but there is something about the look and reputation that makes you a little apprehensive, at times. You just never know. And yes, there are a lot of well-socialized non-aggressive pits out there.
