No, gelato and ice cream aren’t the same thing. Here are a few key differences.

Both ice cream and gelato are made with the same ingredients, the only thing is that gelato normally doesn't have egg yolks and the milk/cream ration is different. Loving pistachio ice cream like I do, I much prefer Talenti to Ben and Jerry's... there is a richer and smoother taste with Talenti.
But you do have a point in as the gelato that they sell on Miracle Mile does have a stark difference to lets say Wahls Ice Cream... I prefer the latter.
