OT - CFP Hypothetical

What should happen imo if we’re picking the best four teams...

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Bama

What I think ultimately ends up happening given the committee’s history…

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. FSU
4. Texas

We’ll find out soon enough.

Even if Travis is healthy Bama’s resume is better. You put that FSU team from today on the field with any of these four teams and it’s going to be ugly. You can’t subjectively tout a win vs LSU when Bama beat them. You have to make a definitive case FSU is better than Texas to package them above Bama. Objectively speaking I just don’t think you can.

I agree with this. Also think, for FSU, that the Michigan matchup is the best they could ask for. Penix and Washington would absolutely boat race that FSU Team. Michigan's more of a ground-and-pound, giving FSU a chance in a low-scoring game.

I agree with all of this, and Bama has FSU beat in every metric except one: overall record. FSU would lose to any other Top 3 team. Bama even beat the same team they have their best win against, and Bama arguably has two better wins than that one. Just don't think the committee will leave out a P5 undefeated conference champion. It'll be unpopular, and FSU will lose by 20 to Washington, but I think that's what's going to happen. I will say, it doesn't help FSU that they looked awful on offense tonight. Sure, you can say they'll be better with Rodemaker, but he wasn't good against a putrid Florida defense. UL also has a better record than it should. They got boat raced by 3-9 Pitt, lost to a bad 6-5 Kentucky Team, and got some very very close wins against other not-so-great teams. Objectively, if the test is "best teams," it should be Bama by a mile. But most deserving teams? FSU takes that one.

As much as I dislike FSU it would be hard to justify leaving out a 13-0 undefeated P5 conference champion who kept winning despite losing both their starting AND backup QBs.
You’re probably right. If they stick with precedent it’s hard to leave out an undefeated P5 team, but I ask you this: Do you honestly feel FSU is one of the four best teams right now, without Travis? The thing about Bama and Texas is it almost feels like they’re a package deal. You can’t justify taking just Bama because Texas beat them so have to take both to make it work. Another thing, we know there’s no way Sankey will let the SEC be shut out of the playoff so Bama/Texas almost feels like a forgone conclusion.

My final four prediction:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3: Texas
4. Bama

I hate FSU but their resume is better because they didn't lose and Bama did (at least that'smy opionion). Doesn't matter though, FSU will definitely be left out.

Just read the first paragraph, quote is from Tuesday.

Will the committee choose the four best ... or most deserving? "It is best," CFP executive director Bill Hancock said Tuesday. "Most deserving is not anything in the committee's lexicon. They are to rank the best teams in order, and that's what they do. Just keep that word in mind: best teams."

They were already positioning to let at least one SEC team in no matter what. They will not let the SEC be left out, won't happen. I hate FSU but this is absolute bull****, results matter and you shouldn't be gifted a spot based on trajectory as it just gives the dip****s in charge an excuse to keep the same teams in every year.

It's a nightmare scenario for this committee any way you slice it. In my personal opinion I think it should be the 4 best teams. You said that results matter and I agree but results are what drives my top 4.

[BGCOLOR=initial]1. Washington 13-0[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial]2. Texas 12-1[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial]3. Michigan 13-0[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial]4. Alabama 12-1 [/BGCOLOR]

[BGCOLOR=initial] I say results matter because Alabama's schedule is much better than FSU's and so is Texas for that matter. I didn't come to this decision lightly as it is difficult to leave out a 13-0 and undefeated conference champion in FSU. However the teams in my top 4 are also conference champions and the two 1 loss teams have better schedules than FSU and are better football teams by any objective measure. In my own personal poll. Francis Sawyer's Top 15 [/BGCOLOR]

[BGCOLOR=initial]This poll is strictly my personal opinion on who are the best football teams. I have FSU ranked #9 because I believe there are 8 teams who are better. Had Jordan Travis not been injured FSU moves up 2 spots max because there is no way anyone can convince me that FSU is a better football team than Oregon. So there it is. Rip away! [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 1. Washington 13-0[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 2. Texas 12-1[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 3. Michigan 13-0[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 4. Alabama 12-1[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 5. Georgia 12-1 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 6. Oregon 11-2[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 7. Ohio State 11-1 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 8. Missouri 10-2 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 9. Florida State 13-0 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 10. Mississippi 10-2 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 11. Penn St. 10-2 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 12. Oklahoma 10-2 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 13. LSU 9-3 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 14. Arizona 9-3 [/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial] 15. Louisville 10-3[/BGCOLOR]

I don’t know if FSU is more deserving. Their strength of schedule consistently ranks 50-65. Bama ranks between 4-10. FSU’s is propped up by LSU. Who both beat. This isn’t a FSU thing. Objectively speaking it’d be the same regardless who the ACC. The ACC is not a good conference. It’s closer to the AAC than the other 4 P5 conferences. If the goal of a playoff is to obtain the best 4 teams there is no case for FSU over Bama.

The srs has them higher than bama....

Now if you believe espn fpi then 2 loss Oregon and Penn state would be in the cfp...

So …. Is there a shot here the Holes get left out? I’d really love to see it. They’ll direct their anger at the ACC and try to justify all the preseason conference talk.

Truthfully, if I were making the decision based solely on who I think the four best teams are I would have:

Michigan
Texas
Bama
Georgia

Obviously, there’s less than a 1% chance of this happening, and I know a lot of people would disagree, but that’s what makes this all so much fun…the debate.
