Miami adds another depth piece from the transfer portal.

Former Florida State and Oregon State defensive back Conrad Hussey has signed with the Miami Hurricanes, the program announced Tuesday afternoon.

Hussey spent this past season at Oregon State, where he saw limited action, appearing in two games and recording three tackles.

The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back was a four-star prospect coming out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and now arrives in Coral Gables looking to carve out a role and provide depth in the secondary.

I remember when Butch had a RB named Dyrail McMillian who played as a true frosh. He was highly recruited, much was expected from him, and then when Edge stepped on GreenTree field he up and transferred citing issues with coaches not using him enough.
It really wasn't about the coaches, it was more to do that Edge was better and deep inside Dyrail knew it.
It's self-evaluation.

I remember when Butch had a RB named Dyrail McMillian who played as a true frosh. He was highly recruited, much was expected from him, and then when Edge stepped on GreenTree field he up and transferred citing issues with coaches not using him enough.

Not exactly how it went down. McMillan was still the starter as a junior in '97 then got hurt in the opener vs. Baylor and Edge took over. I'm not sure at what point he decided to transfer but James Jackson also emerged and that was it for Dyral. He ended up at USF and rushed for over 1000 yards in 1999.

I would still maintain my hunch that he self-evaluated himself vs Edge and, as you added, James Jackson and realized he wasn't going to play over those guys.
Players are not dumb, they see the talent they are competing against and how their coaches are reacting to what they see and whilst they may publicly cite or hint at favoritism, in actuality they know what's up.

Butch got hired in January of 1995, so maybe Dyral might have signed in February 1995 (or 1994, not sure about redshirting), but I'm pretty sure he was recruited and committed with Dennis, because he liked the smaller RBs.

Don't forget, we had Danyell Ferguson back then too. Danyell and Dyral had smaller frames, and then guys like Edge and Najeh and Willis were the larger backs that Butch preferred to recruit.

I could be wrong (again), as it's been a few years but I think he was initially committed to Kansas State, likely recruited by Jim Leavitt, who was the KState DC through 1995 season, and who used to recruit a bunch of Florida talent to the school in Manhattan.
I vaguely remember reading a Canesport article about Butch snapping him late in the recruiting cycle, but I could have him mixed up with another recruit.
I'm leaning towards Butch as he hired Don Soldinger who knew the Bradenton coaches.
I also remembered reading about Butch attempting to sway Corey Simon (Pompano) who eventually played at fsu.
Butch was hired late January, less then 7 days before NLOI day, so it was a messy situation.

Yea but Edge was getting the bulk of the carries by the end of 96. I think it was a stubborn seniority thing. It worked out though and would have regardless.

I remember as a youngster I had a Dyral McMillan pseudo-jersey. No name. Just the #28 on it and was like, that plastic-y mesh real cheap generic that football jerseys were back then. Every now and then I wonder if I hallucinated it all, but then posts like this remind me I didn’t.
