Opening practice thoughts

What does this even mean? You disagree, you don’t believe in Beck?
Imagine a world where you can think the offense won’t be more “efficient” than the most efficient offense in the history of our program

AND still think Beck is good

I hope you’re right. As cool as it was to watch a $exy offense last year, I miss our bone crushing Canes Defenses’ of the past

I’d honestly be shocked if you weren’t pleasantly surprised this year ….and this is coming from a long time realist ( or a “mope”) as commonly referred to by the low IQ segment of this community.

I didn’t feel this way last year , I had major reservations about the secondary which ended up being even worse than my low expectations at the time.

This is a solid all around , well constructed team that will be good at the 3 most important positions in football .

O Line
D Line
QB

We win the ACC and our opening round playoff game. Beyond that no promises but that will put us all in a position to dream big at that point.

Year 4 is go time

To me, Cam’s weakness was, he could be fairly inefficient at times. And I think it’s because, he never took the check down to save his life. But that’s just my opinion.

Saw one similar video - AK47s - one woman fired several into the air - overcorrected on recoil - and shot the woman next to her right in the chest - center mass
Over corrected the shooting like a re re. That's not Kentucky windage. That's Cali windage.

#1 offense by almost every metric especially pass game and the fanbase thinks we will have a more well rounded offense lol. Some of yall deserve mediocrity i swear

Yes, very very unlikely. Literally in the last decade we've only been top 40 Offense in Adj EPA/Play (We have finished 41, 42, and 42 as our three best finishes before last season!) once and it was last year lol. We were legit CLEARLY the best offense in the country last year. Relative to the rest of the country I definitely don't think theres like any even hope the gap is as large. However we could be much less efficient than last year, and STILL be #1 in efficiency. Don't think it's likely, but definitely possible tbh. Last year we were 2nd in EPA/Dropback and 5th in EPA/Rush. The Other teams that were just top 20 in BOTH were:
- Army 3rd in EPA/DB, 8th in EPA/Rush ... 2nd overall in Adj EPA/Play
- Ohio St 4th EPA/DB, 19th EPA/Rush ... 3rd overall in Adj EPA/Play
- Oregon 14th in EPA/DB, 20th EPA/Rush ... 4th overall in adj EPA/Play
- ASU 15th in both EPA/DB and EPA/Rush ... 8th overall in adj EPA/Play
- South Alabama 18th EPA/DB, 4th In EPA/Rush ... 12th overall in adj EPA/Play

And we can remove Army and South Alabama given they aren't P4. So there were 4 total P4 teams including us that were top 20 in both. So we can see that like there is a lot of room to drop in Efficiency and still be a top offense. And I would hope our EPA/Rush doesn't fall off too hard. UGA was 6th in EPA/DB (19th EPA/Rush) in 2023 and 36th (37th/Rush) last year. So f we can maintain a relatively efficient Run game, and our WRs don't drop the **** out of the ball like UGA did last year and with Dawson being a better OC than Bobo... I think I'd probably bet that we stick top 20 for both Pass+Rush efficiency... The EPA/Rush is actually probably the most important factor to determine how efficient our offense is. I'm actually pretty confident in Beck to be an efficient Qb. His issue is more ****** turnovers. But as far as running an offense and making passes he SHOULD make, I think he'll do it.

Ideally we'd keep our Offense top 5, and our Defense would rise to top 15...

I think there’s been a narrative created that Cam and the offense were this boom or bust type team where Cam was just chucking up Hail Marys left and right and sometimes it worked and sometimes not

In reality we were a conversion machine

I’m very bullish on Beck and Dawson and the talent of our young WRs

Still we are replacing the #1 draft pick and arguably one of the most reliable WRs we’ve ever had

I don't know if Dawson is a great coach, but it sure seems like he's at least a good one.

Before he got here I had doubts any OC would be able to vibe with Cristobal's desire to contribute on that side of the ball (putting it nicely), but Shannon has come in and modernized a passing game where many other had failed.

yeah whenever we have Dawson conversations I like to position it like this:

Say hypothetically we (as Miami or some made up university) were on the hunt for an offensive coordinator this off season

If we looked at a potential OCs stats and you saw a roughly 100 rank improvement over the previous OC at Miami with about the same personnel. Same QB, WRs, RBs basically

Then the next year with more talent that offense broke basically every record in the schools history

I think we would feel pretty excited about hiring that person even with a smallish sample size

The notion that we were some Mike Leach-esque air raid team that threw the ball 75% of the time, never checked down, and relied on go routes as the only way to gain yards is baffling even for CIS.

I can picture it now all the muppets saying Cam was inefficient for not throwing the checkdown will melt the moment Beck throws a check down instead of the deep ball to an open Trader/Daniels.

People get really quiet when pressed to explain what “more efficient” means

Kinda like the people that dog our S&C but can’t explain why our offense was unstoppable on short yardage situations

Some bad knees running out there with the 1's at LB today in Chase and Toure. I like it. I expect a big season for this program, finally. I think we can cover our weaknesses enough to get Mario a raise, not an extension. Knock on wood, Beck, our 3 top DT's and starting S's stay healthy. If we don't reach the playoffs with this roster and weak schedule, Mario is on the hotseat. I am pulling for him to earn a raise. Go Canes!
Weak schedule? This is our toughest schedule in years.

I think the rugby coach is somehow behind the "Cam Ward was inefficient" brainrot, too.
