One thought watching CFB all day

UVA Oline like the rest of their team is sneaky good. Smart F'ers
Elliott is going to be in VERY high demand to fill some of these openings we expect to be available by season’s end. If Clemson were smart they’d get out in front of this thing and bring Tony home to replace Dabo.

Texas OL impressed me. I want to feel confident about our interior, but im just not there yet. Hopefully we keep progressing. Get big Joel in there to start throwing some bodies.

There’s going to be fratricidal contests all over the B1G and the SEC. This is going to help us and the Wee Irish Peoples in the rankings as time goes on. It will also help Bloomington because of their cake schedule. We could go into South Bend 1-2.
The Irish don't yet understand that Touchdown Jesus was put there a century go in anticipation of Malachi's coming.

Agree. I think TX OL played well, protected Manning and in the 4th was pushing taints DL around. Was not impressed at all by OSU OL or DL last night.

And one dumb question - why didn’t Day let TX score to preserve time and get the ball back to try for a game winning FG? Had he let them score when they got to 1st and goal, taint gets the ball back with about 1 min left.
Texas OL was awful last year and they made a major effort to fix that unit. I don’t think it’s like some all time unit, but it’s very solid, and our DL has to be better than it’s been if we were to match up with them.

Personally, I think the OL and their ability to run the ball late was a bigger factor in them winning than Arch (granted that first 4th down play was huge).

Loading the box and the ND WR's are doo doo

TrumpyCane thinks they're much worse than last year

Does anybody in America have a good offensive line?
The University of Miami has a good offensive line. Our issues, especially in the run game are not from being overpowered, it’s from lack of communication and committing errors in run blocking. Our pass blocking has been fantastic! The run blocking will continue to get better as the interior communication improves.
I agree in that communication has been an issue but so has technique and size. Cantwell plays way too high which makes him relatively ineffective in a lot of plays. SJ is not physical and gets overwhelmed in the run game.

Oregon is replacing 3 starters from a year ago, while we are replacing 4. Sometimes it takes time to gel, while sometimes it's just really hard to evaluate the position, and sometimes they just suck even when you return 4 starters like OU.

Our guard and center play has been objectively bad. Missed assignments and slow to get to assignments. Pad level too high. Lots of work to do if we want to be a national championship contender.

We also need to bench Chase, but that’s a different conversation.
Pad levels too high with Cantwell, not the starters. The issues with the starters are all communication based and the nice thing about that is, it can all be fixed.

I agree, 100% with Kentwell, but I do not agree with SJ. His issues are completely errors and missed assignments. When he gets his hands on you, he does not lose the rep.

UVA should do whatever they can to keep him. Clemson if they are smart will come knocking after putting Dabo to pasture, and FSU will def be calling if they can even afford their Cricket mobile on Klarna phone plan.

Do you adjust your scheme to your talent
Or change the mix to meet the scheme's philosophy

At this point we got 2 quality tackles and slightly serviceable center (mostly from experience, not talent)
Do you find the mauling guards to have that 3 yards and a cloud of dust
Or more athletic and lean towards more outside run and the passing game.

Seems like we are leaning into the later, but you know Mario wants the former
Play develop adjust
And it may be a case where it continues well into midseason.

OL play is an issue from HS to the pros. Worst of my lifetime . Qb play isn’t far behind. There’s a reason defense has made a comeback and running the ball. All these half field reads , rpo’s and over simplifying offense has had a negative impact on development.

I’d add in do they evaluate the line splits. Not having 330 lb dudes across the front do they widen things out and use space as an advantage?

Cantwell is moving like he’s battling a lower body issue. Just going off the clips from the spring to now. Looks like he is favoring something while moving.
