One thought watching CFB all day

Do you adjust your scheme to your talent
Or change the mix to meet the scheme's philosophy

At this point we got 2 quality tackles and slightly serviceable center (mostly from experience, not talent)
Do you find the mauling guards to have that 3 yards and a cloud of dust
Or more athletic and lean towards more outside run and the passing game.

Seems like we are leaning into the later, but you know Mario wants the former
Play develop adjust
And it may be a case where it continues well into midseason.
I’ve been saying for weeks more outside run and use the small interior to their strengths. I think coaches see that as well. We won’t be mauling teams this year.

I’d add in do they evaluate the line splits. Not having 330 lb dudes across the front do they widen things out and use space as an advantage?
All part of the scheme v player v eval/development v desires

The talent level of our upcoming opponents will increase and the staff has find that right mix. Maybe it will be based upon the opponent... inside, outside, deep shots, quick/short/mesh concepts

You are not alone
Sj should not be on the nose, he should be pulling w his athleticism. If you want bully ball. Hes probably not the guy
Maybe we have OL packages within the game

The thing I like about Dawson and the marriage he has with his offense and Mario’s ideology with the run game is it can always be melded to match talent. More air raid concepts this year would make sense while still having some power elements. Not sure if widening splits to help is possible but definitely more outside zone running getting our sawed off lineman in space.

Trumpycane is sure there’s a stat out there but Fletcher has to be averaging 10+ YPC when we run outside

Man, I love ya, D$ but don't try to temper expectations here:

Lets see how Texas OL looks with a player we didn't want starting
As far as Big Baby Seymour is concerned, it's not as though Texas scooped him up right after he left Miami. After leaving Miami after the 2022 season, Seymour paid his dues at Akron and Western Kentucky. At Akron he sat out the 2023 season then in 2024 he played 210 snaps and proved he had the ability to be a starter. The following year at Western Kentucky Seymour played 840 snaps at Left Guard allowing 1 sack and committed only 1 penalty and was named 2nd team All American. Then Texas scooped him up.

Widening the splits and taking some of the traffic out of the box would help immensely, for Fletcher too.

He is probably rushing for 2x as many yards on 1/2 the carries out of Pistol vs Regular shotgun, yet in 2 seasons we’ve only run it the final like 5 games of the season

Cantwell is moving like he’s battling a lower body issue. Just going off the clips from the spring to now. Looks like he is favoring something while moving.
I don’t know about that, but what I do know is because he’s 6 foot eight, bend is always gonna be a challenge for him, especially at guard. But he’s a hard worker and with coaching it will get corrected.

Think you are underselling TX OL. The end around and gimmicky play calls by Sark were awful, but they pushed OSU around the 4th quarter and Arch was pretty well protected all night.
Texas was very successful running up the middle. They were moving OSU bodies.

Are you saying we don't have a good OL?
I think we’re going to be good. But it just struck me watching Oklahoma, Oregon and Alabama.

The Portal has hurt trench play across the nation. Good offensive linemen are rare and now they’re stretched thin across rosters.
Derek Plazz and Tommy Kinsler would be a big help to us, I know that.
Not sure about plazz but kinsler looked out of shape

OL play—across the five, and how they match up with the D front—is the holy grail of championships. We had two of the best DLs in the nation, and in the NC their OL neutralized them just enough to squeak out that win.
