One thing to keep in mind about the Portal departures..

Markel Bell would be making a mistake going pro. He’s currently slated anywhere from 5th round to UDFA. He’s probably not going to test great either, given his slower footwork (he’s a big dude obviously, but edge rushers in the NFL will just blow by him). Another year of film would be very beneficial for him.

With that being said, not a single portal departure thus far has hurt us.

Edit: forgot about the potential waiver issue.

I'm very interested to see how this all progresses. The narrative Pate has been putting out for Indiana's success is experience over everything. The narrative we're hearing around the NFL draft for QBs is that games started is highly correlated with success. It's only a matter of time before playing time becomes the ultimate currency in the sport. The G5s and 2nd tier Big 4s fully become the minor leagues for the big boys. So how much do you need to spend to recruit the top dogs and convince them to sit for 2+ years? At what point does NIL compensation offset potential money lost for lack of playing time? As Echevarria said, the sport needs to find equilibrium. Here's to hoping we find equilibrium between transfers and recruiting before everyone else

We are in a new world of college football, and the kids are now effectively pros. Be professional and a good teammate, and you will get it back.

We are fortunate that we have had many good kids that simply wont get on the field much for us. Ray Ray is a good example; by all accounts he is a great person and teammate, but he was never going to play ahead of Baby Jesus. He could have sulked, *****ed, be disruptive, etc. but wasnt. Someone like that (and Emory) deserve our help to succeed elsewhere.

Need to just throw a massive bag at Bell (unless Seaton comes but seems like all LSU at this point?) and convince him to up his draft stock. Cant afford to lose juniors to late NFL rounds anymore, total waste and dumb on players part with college NIL $

this makes the case to pay portal players who will contribute immediately, rather than high level recruits who usually need 1.5-2 years, and in some cases longer, to fully develop. Could be a lot of money sitting on the bench for 2 years that could be diverted to immediate starters.

Nah….

Woodiel is his guy though and is the main reason we were able to get him here. But nah, he wouldn’t do that to us. I refuse to believe it.
Imagine going to Ole Miss, the team we beat, over staying here for the team you just played for the Championship who is built entirely through the trenches lol.

Maybe I'm the only one, but If he left for Ole Miss, I legit would't care, cause at that moment I'd realize that dude is a complete moron.

Also don't get why anyone would be criticizing US if he goes pro... I very much doubt we would be telling him to go lol. Like Maybe if we got Seaton we'd be like Ight go... But I'd bet he goes to LSU still

Maybe not hurt but losing Kinsler isn’t ideal, unless he really just was cheeks. You’d expect given what we are losing and him being a senior that he was going to be in the mix somewhere, right? Or maybe not.
