One Potential HC Job to Keep Eye On

Cignetti could go 8-5 every year after this and he'd be adored by the IU fans and have his statue built outside Memorial Stadium. Do the same in Penn State, and he'd be fired in 3 years.

That's why its dumb for him to leave IU.
You’d think that but once the precedent is set, what have you done for me lately kicks in. Human nature and $$$

I’d be shocked if lsu opened up. But if it does that’s the best job by far. In my opinion it’s the best job in the country due to local talent and lack of competition for said talent. Those kids want to stay home. Plus recent success. Since 2003 they have won a ring with 3 different head coaches
I’d also venture there aren’t the same academic standards to worry about as say ND (duh Kelly) and Michigan

Dollars to donuts some team is going to pay Urban Meyer 15 million per year to return to coaching. Coaches with his ego don’t want the last impression of their coaching career to be utter incompetence and getting fired. And his penchant for fingerbanging coeds isn’t going to stop a team from hiring him.
While famous for said coeds, he moved up to 24 year olds:

Yep, in THEE Suckeye state, SHE was the one investigated (and probably let go).

F'Urban

This is the biggest loser mentality ever. Please if a coach ever thinks this way any top team would be dodging a bullet by not getting a coach.

I think most of the Big10 schools are good with 8-9 win seasons as long as they end up at a nice warm weather bowl, preferably around New Years. Exception being Ohio State and maybe Michigan (if they occasionally beat Ohio State and not lose to MichSt). Even StatePenn, with the right coach, they're good with occasional 8-9 win seasons if given the right coach.

Yet they fired Franklin after a disappointing start to recuse where they went all in for a national championship. Hired away a big name defensive coordinator from a conference rival and defending national champion.

I think Penn State aspires to be Ohio State.

I agree about Matt Campbell. He has remained loyal to Iowa State rather than jump to the next big job when he was flavor of the month. I think he’s reached his ceiling at Iowa State. A coach doesn’t have to win multiple championships to be a winner. Sometimes championships are the result of everything falling into place.

Give Matt Campbell whatever he wants and build a top football organization at Penn State and I believe he can win at a high level. He may even exceed Franklin.

I think Franklin‘s mistake was focusing on the defense after Manny left. They would’ve been better off going for an elite offensive coordinator and let him cook. Penn State usually has a very good defense to even elite defense. What they haven’t had during the Franklin era are excellent college quarterbacks and skill players, with the exception of tight ends.

But F-PSU!

I love how quick people line up to slurp Cignetti after his big win. Yeah, he was 11-2 at BasketballU last year ater they went 3-9 the year before. Yeah, they just beat Oregon in their house (that actually is impressive). However, when you peel the onion back a bit, you'll see that his 11-2 last year included beating up on a bunch of nobodies. They played 8 home games. 3 of their 4 road games were against Ucla, Michigan State and Northwestern. The other...Ohio State who throttled them. They beat Michigan in Bloomington and lost ot ND in the playoffs.
His resume prior to Indiana is good - James Madison won 10 games under him. But it's James Madison. Am I saying Cignetti stinks? No. Not at all. I am saying can we let the sample size get larger before we rush to crown Curt the King? Ok, we can't.
Carry on.....perhaps 7-11 can sponsor an event for his lovers with a free SLURPee to all!
You can do that with almost anyone included the guy here. Breakdown last season for us

Lane kiffin to LSU would be worse than him going to Florida ! LSU is a **** factory for wide recovers and Louisiana is a hot bet of talent i would even keep Blake baker and just add kiffin offense

At the moment the biggest Job open is Penn State, followed by Arkansas, OKST, and Virginia Tech. Florida’s expected to open up in a few weeks as well, along with Wisconsin and South Carolina. Auburn could also open up.

One job to keep an eye on, which would really put pressure on Florida and Auburn, is LSU. Right now Brian Kelly has the Tigers at 5-1. However, they have Vandy, Bama, A&M, and Oklahoma. Only one of those games, A&M will be in Death Valley. Kelly is in year 4 at LSU, with a record good enough for 98% of programs. I just don’t know if 8-4 in Year 4 would be tolerable in Baton Rouge.
This would be the wildest carousel ever.

Back in the Grassy days, those goofs crowned Pat Hill, Norm Chow, and whoever won the Thursday night MAC game. Our fans have always fallen victim to the Flavor of the Week.

He’s their Larry Coker. But worse.
not a bad comparison lol. I know players like him but that will start to fade. They looked good with biff pogi honestly. They needed to do a national search to replace Harbaugh and they pulled a Blake James and went with easy pick

From what I was told from people around PSU the big players there had a sit down in the offseason

OSU did something similar before they won it all. They needed to get NIL on the same page and they went out and got guys like Chip

I don’t know enough about it to know who they are targeting but the willingness to pay Franklin was pretty shocking. They seem like they want to go all in
