I think the biggest factor and thing to overcome for Miami is playing at UF and in the Swamp. Handling that road environment and all the changes with communication and etc game one. In my opinion, it’s the only factor (at least biggest one) that I think can keep this close. But, what my be over looked is the Cam Ward factor. It’s not his talent and 40+ game starts. It’s his previous experience in hostile environments and tough opponents.
Last year, CW led Washington state in two road matchups against Oregon and Washington. I know, that Washington and Oregon are not the swamp. But I would argue, those environments, the talent level of those two teams, and WSU talent, are tougher matchups than at UF with their current roster.
In both those games, he threw for 750 yards, 68% completion and 3TD 2int. If you recall, it took Washington a last second field goal to win.
All that being said, CW needed to be Superman for WSU in those games. For arguments sake, he clearly was. We don’t need him to be Superman. If he can play his game and to his ability, despite the environment and opponent, it bodes very well for us. It’s clear CW is competitor. This is the ultimate competition opportunity. I expect him to lead this team in a big way and his past is proof of that.
