One Overlooked Factor in UM’s Favor (vs UF)

I think the biggest factor and thing to overcome for Miami is playing at UF and in the Swamp. Handling that road environment and all the changes with communication and etc game one. In my opinion, it’s the only factor (at least biggest one) that I think can keep this close. But, what my be over looked is the Cam Ward factor. It’s not his talent and 40+ game starts. It’s his previous experience in hostile environments and tough opponents.

Last year, CW led Washington state in two road matchups against Oregon and Washington. I know, that Washington and Oregon are not the swamp. But I would argue, those environments, the talent level of those two teams, and WSU talent, are tougher matchups than at UF with their current roster.

In both those games, he threw for 750 yards, 68% completion and 3TD 2int. If you recall, it took Washington a last second field goal to win.

All that being said, CW needed to be Superman for WSU in those games. For arguments sake, he clearly was. We don’t need him to be Superman. If he can play his game and to his ability, despite the environment and opponent, it bodes very well for us. It’s clear CW is competitor. This is the ultimate competition opportunity. I expect him to lead this team in a big way and his past is proof of that.

Great point but to me the difference in the game and season will be discipline. Don’t take stupid penalties that kill or continue drives. We have shot ourselves in the foot year after year after year. This needs to be a buisness trip. Like Penn State was in 01. Dominate
Agree completely. I think CW can play a huge role in that discipline. Especially communication and pre snap

What happened during that UCLA game though? Defense just overmatched the Wazzu OL?
Re watched the game highlights. Pressured a ton. The RB fumbled in the redzone in the first quarter. Next drive of the second quarter, WR fumbled. CW had 2 bad picks.

It was an ugly game. 6 turnovers both sides. Blocked FG.

UCLA also had a top 10 defense in the country last year. Their DC D’Anton Lynn got hired by USC this year.

TURNOVERS are the key! Don't turn the ball over and limit penalties and we ROLL. No matter the talent advantage, turnovers are the great equalizer

The ONE thing Florida has in their favor is that it’s a home game for them. But if they think the swamp is going to intimidate a dude who carried a horrible team in Outzen and Husky Stadium, then they’re in for a huge shock. I know they think that anything outside of the SEC doesn’t count but those two Pacific Northwest stadiums are as loud as anywhere.

One thing that stuck out to me on these highlights..those Wazzou WRs were pretty **** good. These weren’t wide open catches in every scenario. They won a lot of 1:1 battles and contested battles. Our WRs will need to help Cam out at times because it won’t be pitch and catch every time.
Very underrated on here, i think we have the better group but its not a huge leap in talent imo.

UCLA was #10 in total defense and #14 in points per game given up last year. They were super salty. Held Wazzou to 12 yards on 19 carries

Martinez had 90 yards on 15 carries against them when they played tho
Latu was probably the best defensive player in the country last year and a steal at 15 in the draft. Nasty player.

Some of the throws from Cam were really impressive. He put his guys in spots to make plays

Not worried about X. Horton needs to step up. I think Arroyo could be big as far as contested catches are concerned. Honestly don't know what to expect from JG....
