The state of our current political affairs is directly related to the sports and reality TV culture we live in, IMO. Too many zealots going overboard for "their side" or folks interested in playing the contrarian role for the sake of "not following the crowd".

That's how you end up with people regretting their votes to support #Brexit .

Politics isn't a game. The votes cast and decisions made have significant impacts.

Sports is our escape from that stuff. And it would be great if we could all stay on topic without including our political leanings.

Yep.
I live in Maryland near the Baltimore area and when stories starting popping up about Ray Lewis using
Deer Antler spray on the eve of their last Super Bowl, the local sports talk shows not only stood up for
Lewis, but in several cases refused to entertain the topic on their show.
Why?
Because for all of his faults, Ray had done good in the community, and I know for a fact that if one of
the local reporters attempted to enhance their career by going after him, they won't be employed in this
area for long.
Can you imagine that happening in soFla?

The SFL media hates Miami as much as the national media does. Ever notice how many Gators we've had covering our sports programs? Add to that the FIU clowns and you've got a real hate fest going. And don't even get me started on the **** Gables. The locals there were just rude and nasty when I was at the U. Them and their Gatah infested city government screaming bloody murder whenever we mention the word "stadium" makes me sick. Actually atlanta has a point. Old Walter declared the Vietnam War lost after the Tet offensive when the facts were that Tet was a devastating defeat for the VC and North. That old piece of crap lost the war by destroying public support for it. His drive by comment that we had lost Tet and could not win the war was believed by middle America but he was completely wrong. It became self-fulfilling and started advocacy reporting we today take and mere reporting. Had Walter done the same thing at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge, Ike might have had him shot.
