One name to track who has a decision to make

Both LT and JHH would benefit greatly from staying another year, and they should receive a sweet NIL deal to come back. The trenches are a different animal in the NFL, so the extra year would be invaluable. The team would of course benefit from them coming back.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the recruiting and portal'ing at DT has been an absolute joke.

Behind LT and JHH (who are both "Manny guys" btw), we have:

Deen - one year rental
Gore - one year rental
Burroughs - reportedly off the team
Moten - Has flashed at times, needs to make a big jump
Anthony Campbell - I don't think he played a snap sll season; project
Josh Horton - Talented but did not play this year; probably 2 more years away from making an impact

...And that's it.

This is what happens when you sign one DT a year out of high school.

Whoever's responsible for DT recruiting is going to severely handicap the defense.

I don't begrudge any kid in his position who would leave to play in the NFL. What would be a kick in the nuts is if he portals to another school. Same story with Rivers or Lee.

Jared Harrison-Hunte

Came on strong second half of the season and has a serious chance to get drafted according to a couple scouts I've spoken to in the last week. Would be coming back for a 6th season, which he may not want to do. But he is on the radar more now for NFL than he's ever been. They like his upside, but could also help himself to get sturdier in the lower body.
Really hoping he and Kiko return on the defense.

Sturdy lower body?

And most of the time, said one DT has been a multi-year project. Now granted, most DT's aren't instant impact guys. But still a precarious situation.

This is the player that agents get in the ear of and convince to leave a year early. It kills the program. I’m not surprised Peter was the one to start this thread.
I've never spoken to him in my life. Like I said, some guys are just done with college and don't want to do a 6th year -- not sure if that's the case here but throwing it out there.

Have gotten two calls on him the last week and have heard he's a priority for them to keep right now.

If after 5 years we dont have a replacement for JHH then we have bigger issues with recruiter who cant coach than I thought..

Throw in Collins Acheampong at DT but your point still stands. Not great!

Considering the fact most 7th rounders won't make the active roster and get stashed on the practice squad, we can probably make the money close for him next year if he gets a decent NIL package
Exactly. Too many comments in here are based upon a pre-NIL mindset where only Clemson and the SEC schools were magically getting all these kids (many with much higher draft potential) to stay another year.

In the current climate the offer for him to stay should be pretty compelling. This is also going to be a major marker between programs that consistently win and don't. Can you get kids to stay that might not be national headlines if they do but that you absolutely NEED the following season at certain spots. If not, then there's probably going to be a systemic issue because you probably can't afford the portal at that spot either as it'd probably be even more expensive.

Priority for the Canes to keep him?
