One area that’s concerning

We need someone to step up that isn’t Toney or Daniels. We won’t win vs osu and won’t win a natty. I will give Beck a pass last game cause weather

TE room needs to step up, Lofton has looked healthier recently and Bauman has been mid. WR needs either Marion or upshaw (if healthy) heck where’s Tony Johnson. Josh Moore stepping up would be nice but I don’t think he’s shown enough to earn playoff snaps.

If there’s ever a time to get JoJo involved and comfortable in the quick passing game, this is it.

Kids like that with natural talent - sometimes it just takes time and getting comfortable throughout a season or two. Watching his Chaminade brother on the opposite sideline who’s pegged as (and rightly so thus far) as better than him SHOULD get his competitive juices flowing.

Believing is a **** of a drug - and the cfb world knows that a Miami team that believes is a problem. We need JoJo to believe that he’s the best player on the field New Years Eve and if he does, he will show up and SHOW OUT.

This is by far the best defense we've played all year. They have the best players and it isn't close.

There are a lot of suggestions in this thread that won't work for a full game.

1) Tempo. Not against a defense of this caliber. Recipe for 3 and out or turnover. Will also gas our defense.

2) Short/quick passing game. I called for it many times this year. But it's not so simple in this game. It could work very early and then very late as ee adjust. We have to pick our spots in this one. If you repeat too much this will end up in a couple of picks against disguised zones with players of their caliber.

3) "Testing" the defense with deeper throws. No shot. Beck won't have that kind of time and isn't strong in this anyway. Won't happen. We'd lose by 50.

The passing game needs to work in spots, but to win, we will have to run the ball. Dawson's gonna need to figure out every running trick up his sleeve. And the OL must play the game of their collective football lives.

Be prepared for 20 third downs and many 4th downs.

I believe this game will mostly hinge on QB play. Which QB has the better game will say a lot in the outcome. If it's close in the 4th quarter it may come down to attrition. Which team has the depth to get over the finish line. GO CANES!!!!

Before I get into this, let me preface by saying I think our DL has an advantage and can cause chaos, especially if we keep OSU behind the chains. As for our OL vs. their DL, that’s a draw. Now, their secondary and scheme versus our QB/offense is where things get concerning. Matt Patricia is from the Belichick tree, so he’s going to take away your strength and force you to win with your weakness—like making a righty go left in basketball.

You won’t see nearly as much confusion or creativity with blitzing as A&M, but the confusion will be in the secondary. They’ll show Cover 8, Cover 6, Cover 4, and Cover 2, disguising one as another, and also use combo coverages. This is exactly what Beck struggles with: coming off the first read or not trusting what his eyes see. When the picture starts changing, Beck tends to get confused or throw picks.

Getting back to winning with your weakness—and being a Belichick protégé—I’d expect him to use a number-two corner on MT with some help over the top, maybe a bracket, then put the top cover guy on somebody like Daniels with no help. It makes things confusing for a DC trying to scheme around stopping a slot guy, since that player can be moved around, you never know where he’ll align, and he’s often off the LOS. That makes it harder to jam or disrupt the release.

The game will come down to Beck and the passing game, plain and simple. We won’t be able to line up and maul them like an undersized A&M defense. We just need to run enough to keep them off balance—at least get the attempts. Unlike @Hurricane23, I don’t like this matchup as much as the previous game, but I still see his point. There are enough areas where we have advantages, and IMO this game is very winnable. Just don’t beat ourselves—which is easier said than done.
I agree. If we get in the same amount of third and longs like we did with A&M we lose as that’s where the disguising coverages will be most effective.

Also we need our WRs to win the one on one matchups. Once Beck makes the appropriate reads and gets you the ball out WRs have to make the catches. Most of those 50/50 balls went Indiana’s way which was a big reason they won.

This is what concerns me this game. We need another receiver to step up and be insulted they think he doesn’t need to be doubled.

We have to have success running the football. Get Downs out of the S 2 high and coming in the box. Downs and Matthews can be had in coverage, but Beck has to have good ball placement. Reese and Styles will be a problem at LB. I think we can handle Curry and Jackson on the DL.

Maybe….The best defense we face all year is the defense we face on Greentree…

I think we need to have Samson taking most of the starting reps at left guard, he’s played better than McCoy all season long

We’re going to need somebody in this receiving group to step up other than baby Jesus. I don’t think it’s going to be as easy to line up and play smash mouth football like we did against A&M. We need to be more balanced and Beck needs to hit some more throws in this game.

If they play coverage like that, Beck will shred them for 350 plus yards easily. Beck gets a bad wrap for throwing Interceptions. He elite at reading defenses, his issue was “Forcing throws”. Basically he needed to pull the ball down, and get a few yards with his legs or throw it away.

I think our offensive line can run the ball on anyone and I think they will have a lot of success against OSU.

Outstanding post Cribby. If there is ever a week we need folks like Jo Jo, Moore, Marion to step up in a big way, this is it. Also, beck will also need to be on his game obviously.

Like you, I am also concerned how Beck will react against OSU's mixed coverages. Hopefully Beck does better than Torretta did against Alabama in the 93 Sugar Bowl. We are much better on the lines than that miami team so we have a chance. I hope our passing game plays the best game of year against ohio st.

We will also need a good game called by Dawson as well. Let's do this. Go Canes!
