One area of major improvement for TVD

The next question for me for TVD is can he avoid the bomb game? Lots of 1st year QBs have a game where they just get confused with new looks or whatever and struggle.

If he builds year over year he's going to be very very good.

Hope he doesn't hit the wall that Kaaya did and never really got better after his 2nd year. Totally different player with better tools than Kaaya, though.
Kaaya seemed gun shy to me. He got hit hard way too much. Maybe I’m looking to much into that, but IMO it stunted his growth.

Said it during the 2nd half in the chat I’m in. TVD is picking apart these blitzes curious how the offense looks when they decide to drop 7. I believe that is coming either this week or next week against the noles.
I'd be surprised if he doesn't see it vs GT. I think Geoff Collins is a good coach.

A fundamental of the RPO is to put LBs in a bind. Whether to rush up to tackle or drop to cover. When people make criticisms of King people act like its blasphemy. But bwecause of his height he miss those throws over the middle. And sometimes he doesn't sell the run enough to fool the LBs. I said after he got injured the offense would take off. People were laughing after the first couple of games. I seen what the offense does with A a tall QB, and B a QB who knows to read the RPO....Perry in the bowl game. Teams be selling out against the run and we handed the ball off so many times. And the middle of the field has been there all season to hit. I wasn't gonna go to anymore games this year cuz im frankly fed up but might have to make it down for GT to see this guy in person. Be a great battle in the offseason regardless with him and Jake. That boy can play too.

Kaaya saw ghosts for his final two years. Couple that with his complete inability to avoid pressure and it sure got ugly some times. TVD already surpassing him in pocket feel and, given his frame, ability to take a hit, I'd imagine.

That hit he took in the 58-0 Clemson game changed him. He didn't seem to shake it off after that. He would fold up when pressure came. I remember it like it was yesterday.. a 3 man rush with 8 guys dropped into a prevent zone defense lol

TVD has been good lately under pressure - can't recall a hit like that yet - NCST got him a few times but none of them that violent. That could be the measuring stick... but on the other hand.. he is much 'bigger' that Kaaya. Definitely not a frail kid and he moves better limiting how easy it is to get a good hit on him. Kaaya was a tackling dummy..easy to square up.

Kaaya was an excellent QB. Unfortunately, his biggest limitation was not something that he could work on, which was his lack of mobility. Obviously, the lack of an OL did not help. I recall watching Burrow sit back and wait at LSU with a clean pocket and wonder what Kaaya could have done under similar circumstances.

I mean, I would take another Kaaya, but agree with the general point of your post, want to see him to grow game after game, season after season and not plateau.

Both him and Kaaya prepped hard and had good arms, but as you pointed out TVD's tools are better and once tape came out on Kaaya, it was clear he had poor pocket presence and his arm talent could be negated if you moved him off his spot because his feet did not move as quickly as his upper body did. Thus you saw a lot more pressure and just straight bull rushes trying to collapse the pocket. I dont think I EVER saw Kaaya run for a 20+ yd TD like TVD did against UVA, he just is faster and a better overall athlete. Pitt tried to blitz the **** out of him to rattle him and did not work. Pitt runs a tough, physical man secondary and our guys were getting open. Maybe he struggles more against zone, or maybe those quick bubbles stop picking up 5-10 yards a clip which require him to work harder to get into a rhythm, time will tell but I cannot complain about him after the last few games.

The one that sticks out to me is the hit he lost part of a tooth.

But yea TVD has decent feel which I expect will get better. And he’s mobile enough to avoid most of the big ones. It’s coming though. Nobody can avoid all of them. Thankfully he’s a solid kid and not Jacory thin.

The ol has improved pass blocking a lot too. They graded out as the best group in the Acc against NCSU.
I been losing it when I see Lashlee call counter trey and actually have guys in motion.. Against UVA and such alot of our big plays came from that.. He uses it too much as side dishes but I think it should be the main course, add restraint plays with the bubbles off countertrey, Oooooweeeeee, look like oklahoma a bit..

He is shredding pressure. Pittsburgh sent several blitzes his way and he threw right at them. Against UNC and UVA, he was 3-13 for ten yards and a pick under pressure. The past two games, he is 10-16 for 164 yards with three TDs.

TVD is excellent in his preparation and now he has experience. Couple that with the physical tools, and we are seeing rapid progress.
does Lashlee deserve a nod here?

He'll have growing pains but he's the best QB we've had in awhile. I was pro-Garcia too, but you can't make the club in the tub.

The only obvious mistake I can see is that he rolls right and goes back every time there is pressure whereas if he could move up in the pocket he had a better chance for a completion or to at least throw the ball away. This was the case even when there was no pressure up the middle.
Yes sir. That’s what I’ve been saying is my only gripe with him.
