On Ny Carr...Staying at UM

They didn’t keep Julian Fleming. But they’ve recruited so many five stars it didn’t matter. For us to get to that level, we need to win battles like Jeremiah Smith.

I’d say the biggest reason Carr is not here because the freshmen performed at a high level in spring. They need to carry it into camp.
Julian Fleming was there 4 years before leaving as a grad transfer

I really wonder if Butch Davis could have rebuilt the program the manner in which he did in today's era

Back then you had to live with guys early mistakes, other guys didn't play till at least their 3rd year in the program. A lot of players AND coaches trusted the process, regardless. There wasn't this rate of attrition you see in many programs today
No chance it would have been AS good. Following the 2000 season, the team would have gotten killed by the portal. May have still retained enough to win the championship in 01...

I'm pretty much on the same page here. Again, we are all fans, you, me, Dmoney, everyone here. We all love this program. Some of us are privy to receive a little more info than others. Sometimes I wish I didn't cause there are things I hear that I don't like.

With that being said, my biggest thing which I think is easily seen by what I write is just that I wish the reporting had some more balance. It can really lead to the fans being mislead and ultimatley let down.

I think it's healthy to say hey guys, don't be surprised if our LB room is the weakness of our D this year unless we make some moves in the portal. You don't have to say the room is pure trash, you can report on things and prepare the fans and let them know what's up.

There are also times where I feel it may be warranted to just call something out for how bad it is, simply because there is no way to mask it and eventually it will rear its ugly head. No need to try and cover everything up.

The coverage of last year's defense -- it was bad -- and IMO, the media didn't harp on that nearly enough. You didn't have to be Buddy Ryan to understand it was garbage

But I get it, with access comes restrictions. Trust me, covering boxing/sports I understand this dynamic, and nowadays lean to not having it so I can just shoot from the hip and say what I want to

That's the great thing about ''just'' being a fan --- you can just go buck wild like the Hurricanes in 1991 Cotton Bowl

Good call. You’re right. And there is no question they are the top wide receiver school.

In this case, I wouldn’t want to carry a receiver like that for five years at a big price tag. I think Carr will be better than Fleming, but he’s losing snaps to young players. That’s tough at a big NIL number.

At this rate, Chance Robinson is the next receiver gone in the portal, either in the spring or in the winter

I think what’s happening is healthy. What got us in these situations is not. Over paying hs kids is a dangerous game and gives a dangerous rep. What happens when everyone has money in rev share world.

It would be Toney plus whoever else they bring in.

Let’s see. I’m a Pena fan. This is similar to NFL Free Agency and we just have to see how everybody plays it.
Is the staff not just factoring in Trader (and even Daniels) as being able to heavily receive Slot Snaps in this?

Like if you tell me Trader is projected to receive 70% of the slot snaps in Dawsons Slot-Heavy targeting offense, and then Toney is like going to get 20-30% of slot snaps... that to me is perfectly reasonable for WHY they'd prefer an Outside WR. But if it's really just about Toney, that is straight Dumb unless they just don't view Pena that highly...

Justin Jefferson ran legit like ALL his routes out of the slot at LSU his Jr year... And obviously he's an elite outside WR. I don't see why Trader can't be our Primary WR and put him in the slot...

I'm not saying to carry anyone for 4/5 years but that's a big difference from moving on from a guy after 1 year.

We don't take anyone from Georgia that UGA/Bama/Auburn really wanted.
That’s right. When we beat those teams for recruits it’s because they didn’t have a commitable offer from them. Kirby Smart didn’t really want Carr, even though he was committed to Georgia before we flipped him. It was all super secret 5 D chess to make Mario waste a roster spot on a receiver they secretly didn’t want.

The bigger issue is we aren't loaded with Day 1 and Day 2 picks but we are still budgeting. Having our highest paid players be depth pieces that can't touch the field is mismanagement of funds.

Hard to make an impact as a deep threat with Emory that can't throw deep and Judd that can't complete a deep throw.
This is actually a good point.

If the coaches fail to put together a complete roster, players will leave.

Good WRs want good QBs.

Good QBs and RBs want good O Line.

NIL won't always be enough.

If a guy can only shine by relying on a weak room, they won't stick around.

Yes absolutely similar to NFL free agency, and I'm just nervous about out depth cause we have CJ & Jojo then all true freshmen in our depth chart. Think we need 2 WRs stack that room and make it fail proof. Don't let what happened to our CB room last year happen to our WR room

I'm sure a barrage of "the freshmen WRs were all better" is coming, but I'm old enough to remember 12 months ago when Carr was a freshman that stood out.

And that wasn't even my intention.

Its just a truth across the board. For every program.

If Ohio State had a glaring QB issue, some of their top guys would transfer despite the NIL.

Carson Beck deserves what Cam Ward was afforded, this is not the time to penny pinch on getting him proven weapons
