Olivier Vernon is about to get paid

Vernon is a beast. My Giants needed some help on the DLine BAD after dumbass JPP blew half his hand off, and Damontre Moore got kicked out of the house (ironically to the Dolphins). I'm actually more excited about the Jenoris Jenkins pick up, but like gogeta said, Vernon is hitting his prime. Hope he's coached up well.
You know I was in paramedic school and ran that call with Coral Springs fire rescue on my last ride along

Guess your dad ain't no sh5t.

Dolphins season ticket holder here...Vernon outplayed Wake by far last year. Wake ain't opening up nothing for him..he's an above avg pass rusher..with or without wake around he still will be. He's young, and not a head case as a dl. Dolphins messed up not resigning him low last year..I predicted th is two years back...Ov is hitting his prime..expect those sacks to go up not having to play Tom Brady 2x a year. He Is going to give the nfc east fits.

wake is the better player and most of OVs sack came when wake was on the field

The Giants are retarded, Vernon is not worth anywhere near the amount of this deal.

You're right about over paying. We got caught in a bidding war with the ****** Jaguars, and had arguably the worst defense in football last year.

I must've heard wrong then, wasn't full paying attention I was loading someone on a stretcher. Still record setting deal for his position

We were both sort of right.
He has $52M guaranteed, but $40M fully guaranteed. He's guaranteed to make $29M this year, and $11m next year or something like that. then his $12M salary his 3rd year likely becomes fully guaranteed if he isn't released by the start of the 2018 season.

So the Giants front loaded the money??? That's unusual. That's how you should run a business, but everybody in the NFL back loads and ends up in cap ****. I understand why. They are all on such short leashes that they are constantly in win now mode.

That's been happening a lot. Dolphins have Mario Williams's contract the same way and restructured Byron Maxwell deal to be able to get out of it in 2017

With vets it does. Mostly because there is a decent chance that they will be injured or declining before the end of the contract. But not normally with the uber high priced younger players. Color me impressed with the Giants. I have always thought teams would be better off paying less in bonus money that spreads through the contract as a cap hit, and more in guaranteed regular salary in the first couple years. It makes it more painless when you have to move on from a player before his contract is up.

While paying the bigger signing bonus is generally not ideal, because it gets divided into the salary cap over the life of the contract, it is neccessary, because these players want alot of cash upfront. there really typically isn't much of a choice. But yes ideally you have no singing bonus, and just make it a Front Loaded and Fully guaranteed salary.

Market dictates value

Why fans always got these arbitrary figures attached to professional athletes? The teams dictate what these guys are worth, not your personal assessment of their performance.

Somebody was gonna pay Olivier Vernon. Glad it was us.

Actually, market dictates price not necessarily value. Since the Giants got in a bidding war with the Jags, OV's price tag went up. That doesn't mean he's a better player, just a more expensive one. If you go to an auction and get in a bidding war over a 93 Toyota and end up paying $30,000 for it, that doesn't make that Toyota worth $30,000. But if you're desperate for pass rush, sometimes you have to overpay for the best available pass rusher.

We're getting a 3rd round pick for compensation I believe for not matching

I don't believe so because we pulled the transition tag yesterday making him an UFA.

The third round pick we may end up with is a theoretical Compensatory Pick from the general comp pick formula and not because of any kind of tag on Vernon. If we go out and sign a bunch of high dollar free agents it would nullify that possibility but the Fins don't have enough cash to do that so in all likelihood the Fins will pick up a 3rd round comp pick (the highest you can get) in the 2017 draft. But nobody will know for sure until early 2017 when the NFL apllies the comp process to all the team free agency moves from 2016. And now those picks are tradeable unlike in the past.

Dolphins reverse course on Olivier Vernon, yank the transition tag - CBSSports.com I think it's opposite..

I hope it's a third rounder then, we need more pieces.
Olivier Vernon's agent reacts to Dolphins yanking tag with 'Braveheart' cry | FOX Sports there it is, comfirming we do get compensation... 3rd rounder = 2nd guard drafted ?

Semantics pimp.

Value or Price...

Same difference. Whatever somebody is willing to pay is exactly what them dudes are worth. What don't fans understand about that? It's not a grey area.

Agreed. It happens every year in free agency. Just playing devil's advocate. Besides, I'm glad dude got his cash.

You really think value and price are the same thing?
