Ole Miss RB coach being targeted..

Ricky Williams “only” had 392 carries which caused him to not only say Fvck football but also leave the country, live in a tent and become a Yogi.
That was during a 16 game NFL season where he was getting paid millions of dollars. Smith had 450 carries during a 14 game college season where he was playing for free.

Is it any indication that Briles might be too as some have speculated? I have a hard time imagining Briles as a Co-OC
Briles isn't going to be a"Co-OC" if he gets hired here. Look....Brian McClendon was hired as our WR coach. During the hiring process Mr. McClendon was a very sought after commodity in the coaching world with his overall experience, SEC connections, recruiting prowess, skills as a position coach etc. There were many programs who were offering him a Co OC title as an enticement so Mario did what he needed to do in order to secure the services of coach McClendon.

It is important to understand that in this particular situation the Co OC title is just a title and will have zero effect on whoever we hire to be the actual OC. For example if we hire Kendall Briles, Briles will have the title of OC not Co OC as this is not a true Co OC type situation.

That makes sense

Good coach & recruiter, he signed Henry Parrish, Braylon Brown & Markevious Brown to Ole Miss.

The reason why I wasn’t very high on Mastro was because he didn’t have a great track record as a recruiter & while he was a good coach with lots of experience, he wasn’t the one who recruited CJ Verdell or Travis Dye like most assumed he did, Donte’ Pimpleton did...

Plus he had never recruited in Florida before & not that its the be all end all, but the 2023 class in particular is literally stacked to the ceiling with high caliber RB’s in FL & it wouldn’t have made sense to have a career West Coast guy who’s never even set foot in a FL HS to recruit multiple 4/5-star RB’s who are all at schools & regions that haven’t been historically Cane friendly.

Smith would be a good pickup for us, I think we’d give our selves a very good chance at prospects like Richard Young, Mark Fletcher & Samuel Singleton etc with a trio of guys like BMac, Smith, Field gunning after them.

IF he’s even an actual candidate, because reality is, this could just be another rumor lol
El, who do you like better/recruits better: Hickson or Smith?

I like both Hickson & Kev Smith.

My concern was with Mastro, but either one of Smith or Hickson are great in terms of recruiting.

There’s others too, I’ve mentioned in both of the Miami coaches thread, Autry Denson & Telly Lockette too.

The focus is, just finding a good recruiter who understands the landscape of FL recruiting in particular due to the wealth of high caliber RB’s in FL in the 23 class. If the 23 class was a down year, it wouldn’t really matter if it was Mastro, he’d be fine, but due to how important it is to land a big time RB, we need someone where there’s no question if they can get the job done.

Less margin for error.

People keep sleeping on UCF but it's the largest school in America, has a ton of $$ and is building a large alumni base that has had reason to be excited about their football program with some pretty good teams in the last 15 years. Eventually it will payoff.
Doesn’t FSU have the largest Alumni in the ACC yet struggles to even pay their own bills or raise cash?

Just because your a paper mill of a university doesn’t mean your kicking out huge future boosters
