Old or new

Manny already has the team primed to win the Coastal next year if not the ACC. New coach needs to dew at least that much.

if we hire a competent coach we are beating a&m and competing with clemson. if we dont we will go 8-4 at best.

I agree with competing against Clemson but A&M will have a loaded roster (by recruiting ranking standards) even though they underachieved greatly this year at 8-4. Not sure if it should be an expectation to win in terms of judging a first year HC but you'd like to be competitive at the very least. I consider those games likely Ls compared to toss ups or definite Ls.

To much talent that with a good coach they can’t get to championship in year 1. Lots of other teams in coastal trending down, winning ACC would be my ceiling.

We should have been 9-3 this year.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda. When you get in dog fights in 7 games (App State, UVA, UNC, Pitt, Nc State, FSU, and GT) it's going to eventually bite you in the *** and it sure did for Manny this year.

Gotta love when people hear what you just said (a beyond reasonable expectation/standard) and reflexively scream that we're still living in the past and have unreasonable expectations. It's often even people around our program and fanbase and reallllly leads me to question their motives.
I mean..given the last 15-17 years..it’s kind of delusional to just think we should win this division off rip..the standard and legacy of our program points to that..but u have to work towards..the standard shouldn’t change. But what’s most important is the process of working towards that..Imo it starts with setting a culture..and recruiting

First year is always tough to judge. New coaches, new schemes/playbooks etc., more than likely a shot recruiting class. It doesn't always happen overnight. That's not hedging that's just reality whether it's Mario, Lane or anyone else. That said I firmly believe our defense will improve by the mere fact we won't be running Manny's scheme anymore. Really curious to see who gets hired as OC and if they're able to implement their system without stunting TVD's progress.

A&M and Clemson will be tough, but there is nobody else on the schedule we aren't capable of beating. If we're able to at least compete with A&M and Clemson the way we were hoping to do against Bama, that's a great sign because we've bent over for pretty much every top-tier team we've faced since the 2017 ACCCG. I'd love to see us come out and punch one of them in the mouth and walk away with a W, but at the very least I want us to make it a game.

Aside from wins and losses I want to see more disciplined, intelligent football players and for the love of God please teach them how to tackle.

If we're still in dogfights against every ACC team in year 2, then start raising the red flags.

EXPECTATIONS WHILE ALSO REBUILDING

Knowing what we know now..which is nothing on the AD/coaching front. What are the expectations for new coach year 1..2..3..if the results W/L column isn’t leading to Annual ACC championship game appearances what signs show we still found the correct guy for a period that can be sustained and shows upward trajectory..what are the expectations Day 1

Here’s reference from our past coaches who were axed

These were “Miami guys” Shannon was 28-22 overall and 16-16 in the conference. Richt was 26-13 overall and 16-8 in conference. Diaz is 21-15 overall and 16-9 in conference.
12-2 acc champs or runner up

It'll be the same thing next year.

Until the results actually change, we are the same 8-5 program we've been since 2006.

There are too many position holes (CB, LB, OL), unproven position groups (P, WR), and lack of depth (DL).

We are losing much of the offensive staff, including an above-average OC.

We have serious talent at QB, S, and RB. Beyond those positions, what's our competitive advantage (i.e., our guy winning the matchup with the opposition)?

The recruiting class is totally inadequate as it stands, and we need two consecutive phenomenal portals to fix that.

9-3 is optimistic for next year. I'd be seriously surprised to see more than 8 regular season wins.

We are an above-average team, but nothing special at all.

Exactly. I think 9-3 Is very reasonable. If you looked at this team this szn..and factor in some of the pieces we lose and believe this SHOULD BE a double digit winning team next szn..your delusional imo..and it’s been this way. We aren’t a “reloading” program right now like we used to be

Depends on who manny hires for the OC spot. Will the university spend for a top candidate?

Also depends hows manny recruiting this week. Critcial to get some good kids.

If we have a healthy TVD next year and we don't win the Corstal then we hired the wrong guy. We have like one "tough" conference game and that's on the road against a Clemson team that is certainly in flux.
Our side of the Conference:
- Duke: 0-9 in conference: new coach, Football program on the slide
- GT: 2-6; losing RB to portal
- UNC: 3-5; new QB
- UVA: 4-4; new QB?
- VT: new coach
- Pitt: 7-1; new QB

@Clemson
@GT
Duke Home
FSU Home
UNC Home
Pitt Home
@UVA
@VT

Help me understand how Mario doesn’t win the Coastal in 2022.

Agreed about process and cultural change but I kinda only use Richt as the acceptable standard in your 15+ year sample size comparison point. He came in and immediately won 9 games and the bowl game and then won 10 games and the division the year later. I think if we're now talking getting Cristobal or Kiffin in their supposed prime WITH TVD combined with the current state of the Corstal and our schedule next year then a division title in 2022 is a fair expectation.
