Old or new

Our side of the Conference:
- Duke: 0-9 in conference: new coach, Football program on the slide
- GT: 2-6; losing RB to portal
- UNC: 3-5; new QB
- UVA: 4-4; new QB?
- VT: new coach
- Pitt: 7-1; new QB

Help me understand how Mario doesn’t win the Coastal in 2022.
I want Mario..but he’s always had questionable losses. I think it’s a easy fix philosophically on offense and with game management ..but oline guys are a stubborn bunch..he’s still my choice at HC..but the roster he’ll inherit is not better than what he has and has had at Oregon..and he always dropped a head scratcher

Inconsistent defense, lack of depth, too many close games, too many stupid mistakes.

How much better is our 2022 version than 2021?

Agreed about process and cultural change but I kinda only use Richt as the acceptable standard in your 15+ year sample size comparison point. He came in and immediately won 9 games and the bowl game and then won 10 games and the division the year later. I think if we're now talking getting Cristobal or Kiffin in their supposed prime WITH TVD combined with the current state of the Corstal and our schedule next year then a division title in 2022 is a fair expectation.
He did win 9..but in middle of that Ppl wanted him out and a corch..Remember that 4 game losing streak?

For reference on Mario..imo, philosophically he and coach richt believe in the same formula of winning..especially offensively..and that is how you lose on the road at pitt while ranked 2nd with a stellar defense on your side..the credit I’ll give manny is him being around a Dan Mullen and even LTech..he realized we needed to revolutionize the offense..and he found a system that can be sustained and work in Miami..I’m not sure MR nor Mario believe in that style of ball..if Mario embraces that..he’s a LEGITIMATE top 5 coach

Losses are ok for me early in a tenure of someone making massive changes. In this particular instance 4 is the max and 3 is a very realistic outlook for next year. If we address our holes and look like we moderately gameplanned for an opponent I’ll be happier and likely in the 2-3 loss range rather than 3-4 especially with the offense we have

Not if Manny stays.
TBH I think manny could gets us 9-3 baring injuries just based on the possibility of hitting the ground running’. Especially if we win this bowl...but I think that type of szn is his ceiling and he won’t bring in the type of talent to surpass that ceiling..could he prove us all wrong, sure. But if we can get a Guy RN who can come in day 1 and improve the recruiting..make that move ASAP..it’s all about the future

Kiffin would run the table on that soft *** schedule, next year. Might be a playoff appearance.Only tough game is @A&M and he just beat them with less talent at Ole Miss.

Give me Kiffin. We need to start winning ASAP. Worry about him staying long-term later. Just win right now the rest will take care of itself.

It'll be the same thing next year.

Until the results actually change, we are the same 8-5 program we've been since 2006.

There are too many position holes (CB, LB, OL), unproven position groups (P, WR), and lack of depth (DL).

We are losing much of the offensive staff, including an above-average OC.

We have serious talent at QB, S, and RB. Beyond those positions, what's our competitive advantage (i.e., our guy winning the matchup with the opposition)?

The recruiting class is totally inadequate as it stands, and we need two consecutive phenomenal portals to fix that.

9-3 is optimistic for next year. I'd be seriously surprised to see more than 8 regular season wins.

We are an above-average team, but nothing special at all.
Copy and paste this next summer during pre season camp when everyone is all beavered up.

I really want to disagree with you but simply cannot. Cleaning up the 8,000 penalties a game and crappy clock management needs to be addressed as well.

Kiffin goes 9-3 or 10-2 at best

Depends on who manny hires for the OC spot. Will the university spend for a top candidate?

Also depends hows manny recruiting this week. Critcial to get some good kids.
If Manny is hiring the new OC, page traffic and clicks will be pretty low in this place.

MD has no credibility to pull a good OC or DC to work underneath him. That is the biggest problem with retaining so it shouldn't even be a question.

EXPECTATIONS WHILE ALSO REBUILDING

Knowing what we know now..which is nothing on the AD/coaching front. What are the expectations for new coach year 1..2..3..if the results W/L column isn’t leading to Annual ACC championship game appearances what signs show we still found the correct guy for a period that can be sustained and shows upward trajectory..what are the expectations Day 1

Here’s reference from our past coaches who were axed

These were “Miami guys” Shannon was 28-22 overall and 16-16 in the conference. Richt was 26-13 overall and 16-8 in conference. Diaz is 21-15 overall and 16-9 in conference.

Team needs to past the eye test and to culturally be on track. It currently doesn't. Also needs to have a well put together roster; not talent here or there and a slew of holes elsewhere. How the University of Miami football program is void of linebackers right now is unforgivable.

Can't have a basic "Coastal or bust!" mentality—as Diaz was literally two plays from that this year—and even had Miami gone 9-3 (made kick against UVA, no late pick at UNC, no 4th-and-14 to FSU)—that shouldn't mask inefficiencies of program, porous defense, garbage leadership at top, holes in roster, etc.

ACC was abysmally bad this year; to win the Coastal and top Wake for a championship—this would still be the same broken-*** team with a lame duck head coach.

Bring in a real coach and Miami will start to look like a real team in due time.

Fans wanted to run Butch Davis off, from his opening loss at UCLA in 1995 to a road loss at Washington in 2000—and only got on board with the guy when he beat FSU that season and finished 11-1 stomping The Gator, taking the Cleveland job days later. Canes could've built a massive dynasty had he stuck around—and folks clamored for his return for years—but the first five-plus years of his tenure, they wanted him gone ... again proving how short-sighted and moronic "fans" are.

Okay, let's get this correct. Rosier was playing hurt. Richards was out, and Herndon went down. His top 2 receivers were out of the game and all he had to throw to is Berrios who got doubled...alot. Not making excuses, but laying all that at the coaches feet? Just plain stupid.

Because we aren’t nearly as “talented” as we think. At least that’s my observations when I go to games. The guys we’ve had who fit that mold..u can tell the difference. Do we have enough of those guys? Imo We haven’t had that annually in 15 years plus
We are talented enough to win the coastal. We still get rag dolled by the real teams but we should win the coastal off TVDs arms and some sceme changes on D. Also, the portal is filled with LBs who would start or at least be like for like back ups right now.

Hard to say without a staff in front of us and seeing how major needs are addressed via the portal. Could see anywhere between 7-10 wins.
Agreed. We have gaps all over the defense though that need to be addressed.

DL: We lose Nesta and are missing a legit pass-rushing DE. We need at least 1 DE through the portal, and have zero committed this cycle.
LB: We finally found 2 quality LBs in Keontra Smith and Chase Smith. But we need two more portal LBs and need one of the other guys (maybe TAC) to set up.
CB: Need 2 portal CBs as well. Don't see Tyrique coming back unless he wants a 1st round grade.
S: We're set.

I think our talent deficiency at LB, CB and both lines are such that we will have another year of 7-5/8-4 even with a good coach. Those positions will require at least 2 recruiting classes to make us a 9 or 10 win team If we recruit well. And that is regardless of the coach. Manny has left the defensive depth in shambles at every position other than safety, and has no true difference makers on the offensive line.

You all are glutton for punishment.

Not that it's dispositive, but we had a grand total of 3 players on the All-ACC teams and one of them is a punter. Two of those are likely gone next year (Rambo and Hedley). And the other (Scaife) is a little bit of a head-scratcher to begin with. TVD is likely 1st team next year but aside from him, where is the high-end talent? Does competent coaching better develop some guys and put guys in a better position to succeed? Yes. But still. Who's jumping on to that list next season? LT? JW? I'm not sure that we have the talent to be a 10 win team. More likely is we are a mediocre team and hover around 8-9 wins.

The hope: TVD covers up holes on offense and we score a ton and win 9+ but that's being optimistic not realistic based on this roster.
