Okay I've already said my peace about how I don't think the admin would hire Butch,....but.....but....

what happens if they do?

Are we putting too much on the guy to just bring us back to 2000 levels instantly?

Remember Butch went 5-7 in '97 and I don't know if you remember that. That was my first year at UM, and I thought Butch was going to be fired that year. The fan base was extremely ****ed. We can be a pretty impatient fan base at times (Not saying Golden needs more time. We are done with him...should have been done with him last year)

So if Butch comes in there are 3 outcomes.

1. He restores our rightful place (which everyone wants)

2. He stumbles at times

3. He fails.

We've built butch up to this legendary status in our own fan lore... If we do get him are we prepared if the legend doesn't match the reality?

He already knows the ACC pretty well from his time at North Carolina. His age for me is the only drawback because he may not want to stay long enough to really get it going. I get that Saben is the same age but saben isn't in year one right now the dude would be drawing Social Security after his first year but I would sure as **** take him

UM isn't going to hire a top guy. They just aren't. Nobody wants another up and comer that's going to come in with a five year plan. Butch is proven, we know what he can do, and he would come at a good price as he is motivated to right a wrong he admits to. You instantly gain credibility with media and excite your fanbase again. To me it's a no brainier. What's not to like?

I don't disagree with anything you said I like Butch he did a great job, but can he do it again? Bill Snyder was able to make Kansas State decent again. I'm just worried our admin will find a way to ***** it up, or that Butch has to tear down the roster to get it right again and how long will people be patient with him?

Butch took over for Erickson. We had gone to 4 BCS bowls in a row (Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange) when he took over. As a program we are nowhere near those levels. Our last 4 years? 7-5,9-4,6-7 and whatever Golden craps out. Very different situations.

Cat can 'Croot like nobody's business. You going to bring in some guy who has to build relationships with the locals from the ground up?

Hiring Butch makes sense on too many levels. That means our admin won't do it because they are all semi retarded and spiteful. And to add butt plug to ****, our athletic director was a stunt double for Liberace in *** movies, so clearly he isn't capable of making any good football related decisions.

Yeah he wouldn't be coming to a program gutted by sanctions and under intense NCAA scrutiny. In any case the admin is spineless and they won't hire him. Its too easy to do the right thing. We will continue to wither in mediocrity

It would also make sense that if UM hired Butch, he would bring in Schiano as a DC. Greg needs to re-establish himself as a viable HC candidate, much like Kiffin is doing under Saban. A few years with a top defense, and Greg would be a solid hire for another program, or, be groomed for the man down the road in Coral Gables.

But no, the admin wont do this....too much logic

Don't worry about the guys age man, 60 is the new 40. Butch gets back on campus, with the upgrade in facilities, the south Florida talent base and a fanbase that's excited, and he gets harder than calculus.

He will not be hired by UM....move on.

0% chanc e of him being HC. ZERO. The guy is poison and persona non grata after his UNC atrocities.

NCAA would jump on us us again like a pack of foreign devils.

He is also mentally unstable.

Actually, if Butch were to take over today he'd inherit a HECK of a better situation than he inherited in 1995. No probation, no scholarship restrictions, solid roster, young star QB.... Yes, Miami had some good years before he got here the first time, but we were in severe decline. Not to mention the holes in the roster Butch inherited in 95... PLUS the holes created by 35 scholarship reductions. Butch would do well here, and wouldn't need 4-5 years to do so.

Well, our new President was accompanied by a BOT member, and posed for photographs with a really bright UM fan - who happened to be wearing a very tasteful T-Shirt with "Bring Back Butch" on the front. President asked, and BOT member explained that Butch was a former football coach who his father helped bring to UM, and that he'd like to come back to Miami.

Nothing is impossible.

So our President has already been introduced to the idea, this BOT member has likewise been introduced (sounded like he was well aware already), and that BOT member knows Butch.

This BS about Cristobal, Schiano and other "selections" are either young and would be gone lickety-split after a good couple of seasons, or they were coaches under Butch Davis - so why would someone hire the student, when you could hire the Master?

Butch already knows South Florida. Miami. UM Football. How to evaluate talent. How to stock the pantry with absolute, guaranteed, top talent - three deep.

He can get himself two good coordinators, and it's game on!

Takes away the credibility of the Dark Side. Talking about Butch gives credence to the UM and Goldenite retort that the "Fire Golden" crowd are crazy and stupid.

Bringing back Butch is on the same level as "Hire Saben".

We need to move on. Need to appear sensible in 2015 as we call for Golden's head!

Please stop with the nonsense. Already been down that road - not happening. Sorry folks, Miami will hire John Blake before Butch gets a call.

In Barry Jackson column a couple of months back there were prominent BOT members that said he will never be hired at UM. So he is a much more of pipe dream than most of the current elite coaches. But if it gives Canes fans solace to think about the possibility during this troubled time so be it.

However at some point Canes fans need to think of other options.

Agreed. WTF did the guy do that makes some say he'll never coach at Miami again? For Christsake, nations that kicked the **** out of one another have normalized relations. Because he walked out? The BOT can't make nice with a football coach that's all mea culpa. The admin. Better get its act together, I think this is an enormously important hire. Unless they truly don't give a **** and are content with the guaranteed ACC money. Wow. Besides, shouldn't the BOT be just a little concerned about their own credibility since the last decade and three hires have all but croaked the program? Or are they immune?
