Oh No Tenneessee - Schiano Hired - And Fired 8 Hours Later

I don't see why would Mullen would want to move from MissState to Tennessee.
It would be going from one program that hasn't done much in the SEC to one that really hasn't
done much save 2-3 seasons but with greater expectations.

I don't think Schiano is the answer at UT, but may be somewhat of a pain-in-the-neck for us
every season for 1-2 players in the recruiting cycle because he would be hitting soFla hard.
He would probably hire Beanerdict Cristobal too.
Ridiculous. It's simple he can get way better players at UT. Why do people say dumb stuffike this. Butch Jones was getting top 10 classes there. Sounds exactly what people were saying when we had Golden

Not ridiculous at all.
The state of Tennessee has some prep talent but not enough to make up the bulk of their roster if they
want to be a legit top10-15 program.
The most talent rich area of the state is Memphis, which is not exactly nearby.
The really good UT programs had rosters made up of out-of-state talent.
Specifically, talent from other states where the local schools were struggling.
Case in point the 1990s when the Georgia, Texas and Louisiana schools were struggling and Alabama was dealing
with NCAA issues.
Things dried up for them after those programs got their respective houses in order.
Nebraska has similar issues as well.
Great fan base and support, elite expectations, but subpar local recruting talent.

This is spot on and most people don't understand it. If you want to compete for major conference championships, and national championships, you have to have some sort of recruiting advantage. When you have to largely go out of state, you are most likely at a disadvantage.

Wish it would have been Cut...

The Duke HC?
That dude ain't leaving Duke.
Great job, great school for recruiting certain types of players, decent location and, most importantly for his age and
health, modest expectations.
His next move will be retirement.
His is to them what Larranaga is to UM hoops.

Yep, exactly!
At schools like Nebraska and Tennessee, you have to rely on other schools located in fertile recruiting states having
issues.
Notice how things changed drastically for several schools in the southeast when Saban got LSU humming.
It even affected our program who were relying too much on Louisiana prep talent.

Schiano hasnt exactly been great as the OSU DC. Iowa put a whupping on them, and they had trouble with Michigan's 2nd or 3rd string QB.

He got whupped by Clemson last year as well. He got drubbed.

My only concern with Schiano is that he will probably steal 1-2 local soFla kids.
Dude is a world-class liar, had everyone in New Jersey believing he was responsible for all
of UM's success.

Are you guys that are bashing this coaching search the same ones praising Blake James and Frenk? Literally the two guys we were looking at before Georgia fired Richt.
Literally no one on this site wanted Schiano. James would have been widely criticized by our fans if we ended up with him. Sentiment on Mullen at the time was mixed.

But those were the two finalists before Richt was fired, am I wrong?
I don’t know if it has ever been confirmed but yes, rumor at the time was that Schiano was likely 2nd behind Richt.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic.

You gotta be kidding me...How incompetent are these ADs? Matt Campbell recruited FL, Ohio, and the Carolinas well(which is where UT recruits) and wins but he’s not mentioned and UF goes to Dan Mullen and he can’t win a game vs. the top 15....LOL.

To be fair, Mullen did beat 3 top 10 teams in a row and had that program #1 nine weeks into 2014.

Don’t undersell Schiano. He failed in the pros but so did Saban. He was a good Cane DC. And he did a monumental job at Rutgers, building that program from the ground up and making it relevant. Look at where it was before he got there and look at where it has been since he left.

Yea...but he failed the other 15 times. He also lost 3 in a row after being #1 if I remember correctly.

There might not be a bigger differential in the world than that between the initial fantasy names floated by their fans & media for any SEC coaching vacancy and the names that actually get the jobs. Gaslit deludinoids.

*Only the mighty SEC would provide me the opportunity to copy & paste this post in TWO separate threads on the same day.

I honestly think this is the worst hire in college football history.

I don't necessarily disagree. It has to at least be one of the most underwhelming hires in a while.

Wonder how their fans are feeling today. Probably lots of tears flowing.
