If Golden is gonna leave he needs to leave now so the next guy can salvage our class. We're gonna lose players but the next guy needs as much time as possible to hold this together.

I honestly think Golden has done a fantastic job here guiding us through the NCAA investigation and restocking the cupboards with talent. But I also feel this team has peaked under him. 9 wins this year with this schedule is the best we can expect under Golden. The numbers don't lie and his record vs teams with 8+ wins doesn't yield confidence in his gameday coaching. Thank you for what you've done Golden, but your job here is done. Go home.

Since I brought this up in the recruiting thread that got zapped, I'll post it again here:

If he hasn't dismissed the Penn State rumors at this point, he's interested in the job. Doesn't mean he will get it though. Best thing he can do is keep mum until he finds out exactly where he sits with Penn State. Otherwise, if he comes out publicly as a candidate, the recruits will start dropping us now, and if he doesn't get the Penn State job we are all worse off.
According to this story he's on their short list already:

http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2014/01/source_penn_state_has_vanderbi.html

And it's going to stay this way until he speaks to the media on Monday. Why not send a phone call to Blake James, Chris Freet, or Chris Yandle so they can issue a statement for him and nip this in the bud early?

He doesn't have to nip this in the bud, nor should he if he wants the Penn Sate job. If he wants the job there is no good way to mollify our recruits right now. The best thing for us in that case is for him to keep quiet. If he doesn't get the PSU job it minimizes the damage done to recruiting. If he does get the PSU job it's gonna ***** up the class regardless of how he handles the PR over the next couple of days. The fact that he hasn't come out and deny he's interested tell me all I need to know. He wants the job.
No, the best course of action is not to keep quiet. The best course of action is for him to talk to Blake James TODAY. Tell him if he's interested or not. If he's not, say it so that the school can say he's not going anywhere. If he is, let James know so that contingency plans can be made in case he's offered the job. The worst thing to do is to just keep quiet.

I agree he should tell the school. But there is no need to announce anything to the public. How smooth would it for UM to announce him as a candidate for the PSU job, lose 3-4 recruits for just that reason only to have PSU turn Golden down for the job in two weeks?

I dont agree AT ALL. With a few classes like this one he is bringing in, this team would have been 11-1 this year. I have NO doubts about that. With a half way decent QB, Duke not hurt, and some of the better talent he is bringing in, we will be in the ACCCG, with little trouble.

Now, he MAY not be able to get us over THAT hump, and take us the last bit, but I dont think this was his "peak". I think people VASTLY overestimate what he has to work with this year.

I dont think the guy is the GOAT coach, but I think we can and will be better with some better personnel.

If he's already being mentioned by media and is even being leaked as on the committee's short list, then there is a pretty good chance he'll get offered. He needs to tell James today if he would:

1-say yes
2-would listen
3-say no

If he answers 1 or 2, James needs to know so that he can make contingency plans.

How about Blake James call Golden and ask him. That would work too

Either way, he needs to speak with the James TODAY.

How do we know he hasn't already told Blake James? Of course Golden should let UM know. I'm simply saying it's not expedient for him to let the public know yet in case he isn't actually offered the job.

I hope we get Chud....think he would hold the recruiting class together. Him or Strong, but that's a pipe dream since we can't pay more than Louisville.

If Blake James doesn't already/always have a contingency plan in place he is not doing his job properly and should be fired.

Agree 100% with you Bud

Golden has had his issues no doubt, but I just sense an average replacement coming here. All these names being thrown around are pipe dreams at best.

I can't help but chuckle that FSU and Miami could possibly be losing their head coaches, and UF gave their corch a vote of confidence.

That may be true, but if all that comes of this is Golden getting another raise that he hasn't earned, then that would be a crime. Use the money for more assistants.

LOL. Yeah, Here's your "contingency Plan" right here:
