butch might be able to keep this class together. he can tell every recruit, i put more hurricanes in the nfl than most major schools combined. he turned out all pro's and hall of famers all over the place.
 
How much do you guys think Butch will be worth?

After getting fired for violations and being his second offense, i doubt he's in any position to ask for a fat contract.

Think back to the posts of a few months ago...he says (true?) he left in a contract dispute - in the first place.

1- He is stockpiling talent. Him leaving will hurt us in recruiting now. I know winning is important to recruiting and he should win big soon, but we have a great class that may crumble if he and his staff leave.
2- He deserves as much time as Randy Shannon got here if not more time because of Shapiro's fiasco that he was blinded sided with.
3- I know it is very hard for us fans to be patient but it is what it is.

When we see guys like Malzhan or Mora begin to succeed early, Golden's rebuilding time gets shorten. If next season his teams regresses badly then it may be time to start looking elsewhere.
 
Yes. I think Al has upside as head coach here. He obviously has work to do with the on field product, undebatable. The grass is ALWAYS greener with some fans. There are VERY FEW sure deals in hiring a new coach.

People parroting Chud is a sure deal is laughable. He has an offensive background that is plus, but there are zero assurances he would be able to run a big time college program. Petrino (good coach) is a scum bag and would likely be here for a 2-3 years tops and we'd constantly be dealing with rumors of him leaving. Hire Kirby Smart? How'd that work for UF, hiring a Saban disciple with no previous experience as a head coach? Butch Davis....lol. I highly doubt the admin would bring him back, despite the NCAA saying he had no roll in the UNC violations. Schiano by all accounts is a huge Dbag and would likely rub the handlers and SFL high school coaches raw after a couple of years. He recruited SFL as a Rutgers coach and cherry picked a couple kids a year, but it's a whole different ball game when you're the "man" @ Miami. Cristobal is a ****tard.

Look at a guy like Sumlin, one of the hottest names in CFB. He has produced great offenses but he's been the product of superior QB play his entire tenure as a HC. We'll see how great he is next year without Johnny Football.

QB play defines college head coach success. We've had a functioning ****** at the helm the past two years. Al has his faults, but the fact is so does everyone else. We'll be fine if Al leaves, but I have ZERO confidence that our next hire will be slam dunk better than Golden. Most will *****, complain and nit pick the next hire to death just like they do with Al.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would be a great way to start the new year. Addition by subtraction, losing Dumbofrio and Kehoe would be huge additions.
 
I'm ok with him leaving for PSU.

Only catch would be having the AD/Board already on board with someone else so we can hold this recruiting class together. Bring a new HC like Butch, Schiano, Franklin, Chud, Petrino, etc... a new DC, and a new OL coach.

I'd want to keep Barrow for sure.
Coley til Feb at least so we don't lose Kaaya and Yearby but then if he fails next year I'd be ok with the new HC bringing in someone else if that's what is right.



I honestly don't care either way.

Positives to Golden staying:

1. 2014 Recruiting class
2. Recruiting prowess in general
3. Good face of program
4. He gets it


Positives to Golden leaving:

1. Bye Bye Dorito
2. Bring some aggressiveness back (going for 4th downs, attacking D, etc)
3. Better him leave now then later
4. He may not be a good coach!

I'm sure he is tired of all the BS he has to put up with. He isn't a perfect coach and has real limitations but everyone *****ing about every little issue will soon have something real to complain about. You are about to get what you deserve. If I were him, I'd move on to somewhere I felt comfortable and would let me do my work without have to placate to mentors, the community and fans who don't even show up to games.

Excellent post, but it falls on deaf ears. The inmates run the asylum.
 
People stop buying into this we have no money crap. We spend what we spend bc that's what we want to spend.

But if AG leaves this AD and the boosters will understand that a name coach is critical and we'd spend what was necessary.

Btw if PSU takes him we get a nice fat buyout check. Considering Golden is signed for several more years my guess is the buyout is quite large, which means PSU pays us to hire a new coach (essentially).

These are the best options that are realistic given the scenario:

- Mark D'Antonio......guy is a proven BCS coach with the perfect D, makes less than AG does now
- Greg Schiano.....we wanted him before, but we're looking for cheap bc we were still paying Coker. Different situation now.
- Butch.....same as above with Schiano. He'd be tops but our pansy *** admin might be afraid.
- Charlie Strong....great choice but very expensive

If you couldn't get them I'd look into Patterson and Chud. Anything else and fold the program.
 
I just don't see the purpose of butch. Don't get me wrong, I love butch. But that reeks of a hiring off of nostalgia. Plus butch is 62 years old.
