I've long argued that Golden just needs to be a CEO and surround himself with hotshot coordinators and coaches, but I'm starting to believe that strategy is unsustainable at Miami.

One of my biggest issues with this guy, outside of the fact I don't believe his coaching philosophy "fits" with type of talent at Miami and in south Florida high schools, is that he doesn't seem to bring anything to the table X's and O's wise.

He's supposed to be a defensive mind, but we're fielding some of the worst defenses in recent memory. No adjustments, no improvements, etc. Nevermind the fact some of the players on the roster aren't his guys - we shouldn't be this bad on defense, period.

That tells me we're not dealing with some sort of schematic mastermind and he'll need to find coordinators and coaches to do that for him. However, with coaching turnover and the sheer fact Miami can't afford to shell out the big-time dollars to keep assistants and coordinators at the school long-term, it could be a problem we're always facing.

Say what you want about that hick **** Jimbo - he can call plays and doesn't need to rely on the skills of an offensive coordinator to succeed on the offensive side of the ball. He probably could have kept James Coley had he relinquished playcalling duties, but why do that when Jimbo implements his own strategy that can succeed.

I just don't know if we can sustain success as a program with a head coach who really doesn't bring a whole to the table on gameday. I think Golden is a good recruiter and a pretty solid evaluator of talent, which is valuable, but he might need to be more to win here.

I agree and I said that myself. I think if the HC is that good of a leader, recruiter and developer than that coach can surround himself with the right guys and accomplish a ton. Al sticking with Coach D is him doing the opposite of that.

Don't shoot the messenger. It is an absolute certainty that if PUS offers Big Fat Al the job BFA will take it. The only thing holding it up is that they haven't offered. If BFA issues a statement saying he is not interested in that job, then you will know that they never offered. That's why you haven't heard any denials yet from BFA.

He is lobbying for the job and just waiting on PUS's decision. The minute they make the call, he will either accept and head up there immediately, or he will issue the perfunctory "I have no interest in the PUS job. I'm committed to UM." statement and then a day later PUS will announce someone else as their new HC.

Reasons he leaves:

Fan support: Let's admit it - we have a horrible fan base. If he took the PSU job he wouldn't have to beg people to attend games. They have an amazing game day atmosphere. (The other 359 days a year you're stuck in State College - but still.)

Doesnt have to make the big decision. He would likely be able to keep his bestie on staff for a handful of years if he jumps. if he stays and a miracle doesn't happen on that side of the ball, they are both in jeopardy.

Job security. Can skate for a few years on the NCAA sanctions excuse all while banking bigger bucks.

More $$$$ + all the facilities you could hope for.

Reasons he stays:
He's smack dab in the middle of recruiting heaven.

The cache of the program = exposure. He doesn't necessarily get off the coaching carousel by staying. it is a NFL pipeline job (if he can manage to straighten this **** out which he hasn't yet!)

He's not done. He has yet to accomplish anything of note and has been absolutely (p)owned by Jimbo (that should give PSU fans some pause. Just think what Urban would do to him. Repeatedly. Forever)

Promises made to players and recruits (weak - I know but for a man of his word.....this should matter)

They'll pay him anything to stay and by just flirting with the PSU job he has gained the upper hand enough to hold off the Fire Dorito crowd.

Did I miss any? I dunno. Just reading this I think he jumps and if we land someone decent I won't be completely upset but I'm just sick to death of the coachig carousel.

this is what i think is the biggest outcome of all of this

****. This admin better be proactive and be ready to make the right hire.....fast. Thanks Pete

Have any recruits talked with Golden as of late?

He is not telling them anything right now, but a couple of them believe he is gone because he hasn't come out and denied it.

And that tells you all you need to know. He's lobbying for that job. No question about it. Otherwise, it would be very simple to tell the recruits that he's staying at UM.

He isn't gaining any upper hand with anyone with half a brain. His defense MUST be scrapped regardless of what happens with this PUS situation. Him lobbying PUS for the vacant HC gig has nothing at all to do with his abject failure here.

Yup. We have some very important DL-men ready to come in and start classes soon. And a very important QB commit that needs to stick around. If he goes, I think we need a new coach in place pretty quick.

He stayed quiet the last time the Penn St. job opened up, and it got him a hefty pay raise. He's doing exactly what Jimbo did, and Frank Beamer has done, and many other coaches - use the fear of another job to get them a raise. Al will sign a new contact for more money, more assistant money, etc. when this is all over.

Guys, if you want to help our progrum, make sure you tweet at Al Golden and tell him what a lowlife he is so we can hurry up and run him out of town.

i have come around to accepting that we would actually be better off without Al Golden. I just think we take a few steps back again and i do not want to do that right now.

Is there a national buzz about this or is it limited to Miami related message boards and Miami-centric media?

Sigh... Business is business I suppose. First time I've been truly disappointed with Golden. Regardless of what you think of him, a change in coaching will at the very least give us another rebuilding cycle. A schematic genius would be great, but ultimately, we just don't have the ability to keep up with the Jones' in terms of facilities, coordinators, coaches, and [the perpetual elephant in the room]

Without the OB or another stadium arrangement, I fear that our program will be back to the 70s soon enough.

This is 100% correct. If he didn't want the job from the get go he would have just tweeted out that he isn't interested. He clearly is, but it doesn't seem to have been offered to him yet. So until its either offered to him or he is told he's not getting it, you will not hear anything from Golden.
