Official State Penn job as it relates to Golden Thread

Word on Penn St board is that Schiano and Golden are top choices and PSU wants it done by January 6.

Chud as coach- really! I do not recall him being much of a recruiter, and recruiting is the most important task of a college head coach.
I remember Chud when he was part of the TD club in Miami, and he does not strike me as someone that would draw recruits to him. Lacking in the charisma department.

Butch is getting old now and if he goes a couple of years without a conference ship, they'll be flying banners over the stadium again.

We have gone through the Coker and Shannon Eras, and 3 years smothering NCAA bullsh*t. What we need for now is stability and vision.

We have a bunch of Jerry Jones wannabes in here who want change just for the sake of change. Good recipe for sustained mediocrity!

If you want a successful business you have to have a clear plan and the nerve to stick it out through rough patches regardless of the pain. This why 90 percent of new businesses fail, and very few reach the heights of the truly successful.

Continuity for the sake of continuity is much worse. You stick through rough patches when your plan has given you a sign of future success. The Golden plan hasn't.

Chizik was coming off a NC and went 3-9. Auburn lets him go and now they are playing for the NC. Should they have kept Chizik just for the sake of continuity?

I am apathetic to the possibility of Golden leaving, which I guess is worse than being 100% for him leaving or staying. If he stays, there is no guarantee he will fix this staff, this defense, South Florida recruiting or generally being out coached every Saturday we aren't playing Savannah State. The other side to that is he could be the guy, make the adjustments to his staff and scheme, continues to recruit at a high(ish) level and win. OR he could leave for Penn State and set back our program another 3-5 years by dismantling this class of playmakers. We lose Kaaya to UCLA, we lose Valentine to LSU, we lose Yearby because Coley leaves, we lose Chad to FSU, etc. and we are back to where we were after USF beat us in 2010 with a terrible roster and no difference makers....but then I think about what a Bobby Petrino (not saying we would, but humor me) could do with this talent, this program and this recruiting area. Or I dream about the next Pat Narduzzi sending our tribe of savages in for the kill. I go back and forth. If he leaves, it will depend on the new hire for me to really decide how I feel.

These are the best options that are realistic given the scenario:

- Mark D'Antonio......guy is a proven BCS coach with the perfect D, makes less than AG does now
- Greg Schiano.....we wanted him before, but we're looking for cheap bc we were still paying Coker. Different situation now.
- Butch.....same as above with Schiano. He'd be tops but our pansy *** admin might be afraid.
- Charlie Strong....great choice but very expensive

If you couldn't get them I'd look into Patterson and Chud. Anything else and fold the program.

Those are some good choices there... Although I think Chud is an NFL guy now. Once guys get a taste of the NFL paychecks, they seem to want to stay there. The only way they come back is if they get tired of being tossed around. College gigs offer more security.

Pretty sure Chud was getting about $3M w Browns
His current salary is $0

Golden leaving this year would be a DISASTER of EPIC proportions for this program. We are on the cusp of locking down the best class we have had in YEARS, and talent that we DESPERATELY need to get back to the elite level. IF he bolts now and that class falls apart, it will take a new coach years to rebuild those relationships and start stockpiling the kind of talent and system we need to get back to the top. Yes yes, I know someone will say 'But Mahlzan and Saban did ***". Mahlzan and Saban AINT COMIN HERE. That that through your heads. This school is NOT going to hire Butch Davis or Bobby Petrino while we are ON NCAA PROBATION and coming out of the Shapiro mess. Schiano? LOL. Schiano LAUGHED IN OUR FACES when he was at Rutgers and they offered him here, I would be shocked if the school offered him again.
Kirby Smart? Smart will land a 3+million gig in the SEC or Big 10 soon enough. He will laugh at us the way Dan Mullen laughed at us. UM can pay about 2 to a little over 2 million a year for a new coach. NONE of those big names you are all dreaming about will be coming here. Get ready for George OLeary or or someone like Carey from Northern Illinios. That is who we will go after. And we will be starting from scratch, AGAIN.

If Golden leaves, it would be MUCH better if he does it in a year or two, when he's reloaded the talent, and gotten us on a solid foundation that will be more appealing to recruits and any potential new coaches. Right now, it would be a DISASTER.

Chud has never been a college HC, nor has he even been in the college game in well over a decade. He's been an NFL guy most of his career, and is a giant question mark on recruiting.

And Gary Patterson? WHAT? Patterson isnt going anywhere unless its to Texas. That guys making a fortune, has job security for life, and has already said no to a ton of other offers. Charlie Strong isnt coming here either. UM cant even pay him what he would make at UL.
