We're getting a big payout from PSU for them taking Al, so we realistically could up the ante for a coach.

Will it happen? Probably not, we'll probably end up with some cheap third-rate loser as our HC, as we have always done. I'm expecting the worst possible hire, so when we get our HC, either I'll have been expecting it, or eating crow when we get an awesome HC.

At this point, Golden leaving would be best for all parties involved - regardless of whether he coaches at PSU or not. Does Miami (or any program) really want a coach that's interviewing for other jobs? That sends a horrible message. We need a coach that's all in.

Absolutely! That is exactly why Butch Davis makes perfect since. He has already indicated his desire to return, and he would be out for one goal and only one goal. Win it all! Jimmy was a young nobody from Ok state. Erickson was also an up and comer who came here on the cheap.
Same with Butch. Coker also.
We got Shannon because we couldn't afford to get anyone better, which is saying a lot.
We extended Golden because we found a diamond, and gave him a raise so that he would still make less than more than half the D-1 coaches.
