Offensive line size

There's a huge difference between 6'2" 245 (me) and 6'2" 245 (Ray Lewis). Body composition matters.

Our S&C has never really recovered since Coker let guys get fat and played them. Shannon never had a program, Golden and Richt's program dirty bulked. I thought Feeley was a good hire, he'd take you as far as you wanted to go. We will see what Cristobal can implement as even big guys like Rivers still look sloppy.

Chance Warmack might have been only 6'2" but he was a gigantic 315 or bigger and would absolutely move guys.
Feeley did a great job with Duke this year. For those not in the know.. Dukes endowment jumped 56% in 2021 and they decided to give Elko a ton of cash.

There were still fat slobs all over the place under Feeley. McDonaldson stumbled around at 400 his entire tenure among others. But no telling if that’s on accountability of head coach, culture or S&C.
lol

This had me at the highest of ****tivity last year...im like This the sh*t u wanna bring from Oregon?
It’s a bit of a red flag that the only guys that followed Mario from Oregon were guys who probably shouldn’t be here anyway. As bad as the line has been those two were worse than any of the holdovers from Manny.

It’s nice to get an infusion of talent for next year. I still think Cohen and Zion start at the tackle spots and Rivers and the two freshmen fight for the two guard spots.

I'm thinking we target QB's at least an inch shorter than D'Eriq King for the next several cycles just to balance things out. Hopefully that jives with Gattis' longterm vision.

End of season we were rolling out with:

LT-Campbell
LG-Seymore
C-Clark
RG-Cooper
RT-Scaife

Starting OL for first game potentially:

LT-Nelson
LG-Rivers
C-Lee
RG-Cohen
RT-Mauigoa

One group bottom third of ACC, other group could potentially be best unit in ACC at minimum top 3.

Aside from the dysfunctional system, the biggest problem on offense was a lack of bodies up front. There were so many injuries that twelve (12) OL saw meaningful snaps. Of those twelve, seven of them were 6'3 or under.

2022

Jakai Clark (6'3, 305)
Justice Oluwaseun (6'3, 325)
Delone Scaife (6'3, 314)
Jonathan Denis (6'3, 320)
Laurence Seymore (6'2, 315)
Ousman Traore (6'3, 310)
Logan Sagapolu (6'2, 340)

John Campbell (6'5, 320)
Jalen Rivers (6'5, 325)
Zion Nelson (6'5, 316)
Anez Cooper (6'6, 350)
Michael McClaughlin (6'7, 300)

In 2023, our projected top 12 only includes one player 6'3 or under- the 320-pound backup center, Jonathan Denis.

Zion Nelson (6'5, 316)
Javion Cohen (6'4, 305)
Anez Cooper (6'6, 350)
Jalen Rivers (6'5, 325)
Matt Lee (6'4, 295)
Francis Mauigoia (6'5.5, 330)
Samson Okunlola (6'5, 330)
Jonathan Denis (6'3, 320)
Matthew McCoy (6'6, 290)
Michael McClaughlin (6'7, 300)
Tommy Kinsler (6'6, 330)
Frankie Tinilau (6'5, 315)

The infusion of talent from this recruiting class and the Portal has dramatically changed our front. That may be the biggest difference between 2022 and 2023.
I got to have BIGGENS across front OLINE 330 pound road grading beef .
Inflicting our will platooning BIGGENS all game long.
Never having any remorse pure carnage.

Follow by RB with huge quads thrusting high stepping till second level then afterburner.

This is how we’d run it pure pounding , love physical line play the key to victory

Not many guys followed Mario from Oregon, true, but if you’re a starter why transfer? Especially across country?

This is very underrated. Got to have big dudes on the lines. Look at Bama, Georgia, OSU. This is a good start.

Any idea how McLaughlin is progressing? I'm certainly no OL expert, but I was intrigued by what he brought to the table and figured it would take a couple years before we had any sense of what he could actually be.

That's an interesting question. Seems like there are four logical, general categories.

1. P5 coach goes to P5 program - like Kelly, Reiley, Mario, etc.. Unless you are a special player, connected to your outgoing coach, I don't know that you'd go. If you aren't a starter, maybe you want a second chance. Or maybe you don't trust your outgoing HC.

2. G5 coach goes to P5 program. I wonder how many prior players the coach even wants. Probably a couple that he thinks can play and help form immediate "culture". But I doubt he wants many. Quality of players/recruiting is likely one of the reasons he left the prior job.

3. P5 coach to G5 job. Can't see why any starting player would transfer down, absent some unusual circumstances. But, again, back ups? Maybe. The portal has shown us that P5 guys, looking for better opportunities, can end up with G5 (or lower) positions as their best options.

4. The non-P5 DI coach going to a P5 job. This is still G5 to P5, but we're looking at the upper G5 programs, some of which are about to be P5. Fickell would be a good example. I don't think many starters are going to Wisconsin from Cincy, but I'm also not sure how many were invited and Cincy had one the most talented non-P5 rosters. Maybe look at guys like Heupel and Frost here as well. But the Portal wasn't in play for Frost's move, not sure for Heupel's. Harsin is in this group as well. I didn't pay any attention, but I don't remember stud starters transferring to follow the coach.

Good analysis.

Posting the notion that Oregon players not jumping to flock to Coral Gables as a reason to be critical of Mario is put out there by those who dislike Cristobal in the first place.

I think more players will chase NIL opportunities and rather than simply following their HC or Coordinator when the later change jobs.

Lincoln Riley-Caleb Williams (and Mario Williams) was a perfect storm and outlier.
