Agree. Word all over is that defense dominated and neither QB was consistent. Minchey is a very average QB.

Right now Burnham and Traore are listed as the Starters. Burnham is a good DE, they will rotate.

Leonard ran for 900+ yards. That only works cause of the extra blocker. Love was the change of pace back not the guy. I am interested to see how he fares if there is no threat from the QB to run.

But I still remember Jazz Fest Chicago was one of the hottest and muggiest events I've ever been to. And I"ve been to a lot of oppressive OB and HRS games. It was similar to many of those.

All I'm saying is don't count on that being a decisive factor. I don't doubt players will be gassed and cramping up (possibly on both sides). For me, Beck, Bain, Toure and Co, their new QB and the hostile crowd and noise levels -- I'm banking the win on those reasons, not heat/humidity.

Little backstory on this that a local ND guy put our (not a national guy or premium site guy, but a guy in South Bend who covers ND locally & knows the staff);

Freeman is a coach in the Jim Tressel tree of don’t turn the ball over, play defense, win.
He HATES turnovers.
Minchey was taking care of the ball, throwing it away, hitting check downs, or tucking it & running for a few.
Carr is more of a gunslinger. He stretches the field, has more accurate arm & stronger arm. But he throws more 50/50 balls & isn’t afraid to throw into tight windows.
So in fall camp, Freeman was favoring Minchey’s safe approach.

All the media was being told it was Minchey. It was “leaked” by “sources within the program” that Minchey was QB starter. Then it was reported Freeman was very unhappy about that & got on people about leaking that.

Then it came out that OC Denbrock wanted Carr.
He felt that Carr was the better QB for the entire season, running his offense & pushing the ball down the field, which would open the run game. He felt playing it safe allowed teams to focus on ND’s run game without fear of getting beat deep.
He felt throwing a pick once a game is fine if it opens up the offense to more explosive plays in the run & pass game.
ND realized Carr throwing picks against their secondary (who is probably the best in the country), is not as bad as it seems. They need Carr to throw deep to open the run game & test defenses. And he won’t have to as much as a gunslinger as in camp in the real games.

I think this was the best decision for them because Carr can throw. He will turn it over, but also will open up their entire option. Plus, the kid grew up under pressure, so he seems to get rattled.
 
Idk sht about coaching and evaluation or playcalling.

So it’s so surprising that my dumb ahhss saw this coming a mile a way.
Cant believe so many fell for qb controversy bs.
