Notre Dame's QB1 in the Opener

I'm assuming the Domers think they can bully people with the OL. They will rely heavily on the run and why not? they have an excellent RB. Can we stop the run and force the kid to pass?
Whenever we got one dimensional over the years because our QB sucked, our opposition would stack the box.

Is it?

Beck wasn't great last year. If he turns it around and plays like he did in 2023, sure, I'll feel better. But he's coming off a major injury and wasn't all that impressive in multiple games before the injury occurred. And Miami's offensive weapons aren't what UGA was rolling out in his two seasons as a starter.

On top of that, ND's defense most likely will be a Top 10-15 unit, and their secondary is their strength. While Golden's loss hurts, it's still Freeman's defense, and they return a ton of production on that side of the ball (and get back 2 guys in Bothelho and Traore who were starters at the beginning of the year, but who got injured and weren't even there for ND's playoff run; they have a ton of depth on the DL). If Beck doesn't have time to throw, or our WRs and TEs can't get open, does it matter if Beck gets the advantage at QB over Carr?

The 2017 ND team that Miami smoked finished 10-3 and limped to the finish line that year, much like the Canes did. The 2025 ND team that walks into Hard Rock is far better than that season, and their strengths align with our weaknesses.

Again, I'm not saying that the Canes can't win; they can, and I believe the game will be close. But those expecting a blowout just because of Beck and Hard Rock? I just don't see it.

Beck is a 6th yr Sr vs a kid who I'm sure will be making his first start in a loud environment. Beck has way more big game exp. His stats at UGA last year were not bad and also his supporting cast was trash, most drops in the nation. The defense also was not as formidable as it was in years past. I don't think he's Cam a level talent but he should be able to more than hold his own and lead us to victory against ND with a QB making his first start. Stack that mf box and force him to throw.

Especially early they are going to try and run it right at us. Unless our LBs have really improved greatly, it’s hard to see us stopping that. That’s my biggest concern. If the teams swapped LBs, we win this game pretty easily.

The progress of the defense under the new coaching staff will decide the game.

If that unit is above average or better, I think the Canes will win.

I've said this elsewhere, but on paper, if you are objective and take off the fan glasses, this is going to be a tough game. They had tons of post season practice to gel their 2nd and 3rd string. They return a lot of guys. We lost our entire offensive capacity output. Our QB1 missed an entire spring. Defense is a total rebuild job. We have way more question marks than they do.

Only clear undisputed advantage we have is The Rock. If you mother ****ers aren't there 3 hours before, and hurling beer bottles at those team busses the moment they start pulling into throwing range, I will find you and execute you in the blue lot.

I see a lot of reasonable takes on this game. CJ Carr appears to be the real deal when it comes to talent. He will be the starter and is the reason Angeli transferred. The key as many have said, will be his ability to handle the environment. Nobody knows until its game time.

The two biggest differences between this upcoming game and the 2017 game, are ND's team speed and Marcus Freeman. ND showed against UGA that they are as fast as SEC teams.

Kelly failed on numerous occasions to have the team ready to play in games like 2017. It was his biggest weakness. Freeman will have the team ready. Just look at the opener last year at A&M or the playoff run to the National Championship game. In all of those games ND was the underdog and even trailed UGA and PSU, but never flinched. That was with 7 starters out due to injury.

I expect a close game and would be shocked if it turned out to be another 2017 experience.

Yeah it’s gonna be a great game. Miami most importantly needs to match your lines physicality especially our dline and our wr’s need to get off press and get separation. I think we have the edge with becks big game experience but it’s going to be a tough tough battle. Freeman is a great coach. Can’t wait.

You seem pretty reasonable. Not that it will help you much here, but thank you anyway.

On the flip side Mario usually has his team ready week one as well.
We have seen Oregon go into O$U and dominate them. We have seen our Canes go up state and crush the Gators.

I think this game is going to be so much fun. We need a statement win. Doing it on National television when everyone is watching would be ideal.

That opener last year was one of the most satisfying Canes games I can remember. A beat down of epic proportion.

You think they were using playoff practices to gel their backups? Lmfao! Man I’ll go back to reading posts. Nevermind

Yeah playing in Hard Rock won't be a big deal.
I've been to a ND game on their campus, and let me tell you Midwest families, especially in that area, its guns god and football and I'm not sure in what order.
The traditions they have make it have a lot of pressure.

I think if you get up early on them, say 14-0 in the 1st quarter, then just play ball control and go all in on their run game, it'll be a 21-13 type game.
Can we portal this man to ND please????

This man said playing at Hard Rock wont be a big deal.......

I think he sniffin the same paint chips as Haulcy

Couldn't agree more. I give Kelly credit for getting the program back to respectability, but he never embraced ND and its culture. All the things he whined about wanting or not having is happening now and it's because Freeman embraces the culture and relates to everyone on a personal level. Kelly has a massive ego and never understood that the program was bigger than him. The way he left was as bush league as you can do it. Takes a phone call while eating dinner at a recruits house with other coaches, then abruptly leaves without telling the coaches what was happening. Didn't even bother to bring the team together to let them know.

They had 11 original starters out, so it was their 2nd & 3rd string who were in the 2-deep for the CFP. So yes, they were getting a lot of practice reps because they were in the 2-deep. And those guys are all back this season. They had more practices from the end of the regular season to the title game than a team gets in spring and fall camp combined.
That’s a lot of reps.

You’re looked down upon if you stand up at notre dame football games what the **** kind of post is this 🤣

I can’t even begin to explain the polar opposites of environments between notre dame and Miami on a big night against a storied rival.

It’s going to be a very tough game no doubt but comparing the two environments each team plays in is ridiculous. Big night games in miami is total pandemonium. I don’t recommend anyone bringing children to night games against: fsu, UF, or notre dame. It’s the definition of hostile

Hey man, I live in northern Ontario Canada, it's only a 10 hour drive for me so it's kind of close. I like CFB, but I'm Miami all the way, hoping to make a game in the next two years.

I try and pick a stadium a year.
Excited to see Miami as a stronger team and the tailgating and all that.

Anyone remember the Chancellor of UW saying she would never allow a home and away scheduled with Miami again after our behavior in the night revenge game against Washington? Hostile with intent. That ticket could have come with a PG13 rating. ;)
