Notre Dame AD: ACC did “permanent damage”

All the other conferences will be changing theirs as well for the same reason. I'm not complaining about not making the ACC Championship game since the Canes made it in anyway and like you said, without playing an extra game.

I was just responding to the previous post saying the Big XII is perceived as stronger than the ACC. I'm just saying that the public perception of the ACC is they are stupid because of giving a 5 loss team a shot at the conference championship. Moreso than weakness in comparison to the Big XII.
The Big12 & ACC are basically the same when you look at the top 6 of the conference, it’s probably split 3-3

The biggest difference right now is the ACC isn’t a serious football conference, Jim Phillips being our commissioner says it all. The whole situation is embarrassing for the ACC. They’re not proactive in any way.

Compare him to Sankey, Petiti or Yormark and it’s not even close.

CFB as a product would GREATLY benefit from the Big12/ACC each having several elite teams every year and sustaining that.

I hate the idea of having 2 mega conferences like the NFL, I would much rather see a large P4 with each conference having their share of elite programs.

It will be detrimental to both the Big12 & ACC if their only representatives get bounced in the playoff immediately. Having a playoff that’s only Big10/SEC teams is bad for this sport.

It’s why I never understood why so many in this board roots for all ACC teams to lose all the time, we NEED SOME to be GOOD/Successful or the whole conference looks like a joke.

Sagarin has ACC as a slightly better conference than the Big 12 this year. Obviously thats without Clemson and FSU pulling any weight.

I think the ACC is a better football conference than it is credited for. Some pretty good coaching and a number of good QBs any given year. Definitely a tier below SEC and B1G, but not as dramatic of a drop off as is portrayed.

But absolutely the commissioner is a joke and needs to go.

I remember seeing a bunch of pussies on this site begging us to do the same thing if we were snubbed.

Thought it was *** then and think it’s *** now. Go and play the bowl game and get young guys reps. Get extra practice in to develop players.

Soft move

The CFP shafted ND by changing at the last second. We should’ve been in above them for weeks leading up to the decision. The committee only moved us in because they didn’t want to leave the ACC without representation. That was a mistake
Said the same thing also. FSU absolutely shattered their image and nd is making that look like child’s play right now.

I want in to the B12. I think it’s on the rise and we’d be treated way more fairly there than the other conferences, even if we could get in the B1G and SEC
I don’t think we should join them. Too many west coast teams. Utah, ASU, Arizona, BYU, and Colorado. When we went to Cal last year that game didn’t end until **** near 2am. The travel could take a toll on these young players bodies too.

Yeah, when I was at the Cal game last year I just caught the BART train home after the game.

MOAR WEST COAST GAMES!

Seriously though, the B1G isn’t convenient either and I don’t think we’re getting in there (unless ND really is shopping us 🤣) and i think we’d be treated like mierda there. And forget about the SEC - they definitely don’t want us and they would try to keep us down IMO. I think the B12 is the best and most realistic option. I like that conference. It’s a good spot for capable misfits and rejects.

I appreciate the warning, but there’s really nothing in your post that’s particularly controversial. You make some fair points.

I don’t believe Miami needs ND to join the Big Ten or to get out of the ACC. Another poster compared ND to a dated drive-in theater while also suggesting ND somehow has the power to collapse the ACC and free Miami. I was responding to that contradiction, not implying Miami relies on Notre Dame for anything.

I see the surface level positives and negatives of staying indy versus joining the BIG. I don't have a deep understanding of all the long-term benefits and consequences. I can’t stand watching games on NBC, and prefer ABC to FOX, so it looks like I’m ****ed either way on that front

That's a pretty fair response. I'm not asking for Notre Dame fans to have a mass "come to Jesus" moment, where they drop all arrogance and start treating everyone else with kindness. ****, that's one of the best parts of college football, talking trash about our teams' relative strengths.

I'm just pointing out that, over time, the tides are starting to turn against Notre Dame. Where the P4 (once P5) felt Notre Dame was too compelling to leave out of the playoff equation, the more recent Notre Dame TV ratings are beginning to tell a different story. And with the timing and bad PR of this "guaranteed playoff spot" hitting the headlines, it's very possible the P4 may not extend the same courtesy once we go to 16 or 20 or 24 CFP slots.

At any rate, I do know that some of our posters are going to be hard on Notre Dame. Look, I have a ton of hate for Notre Dame too, but I can also respect the history and accomplishments (though no big accomplishments since 1988, sorry, I had to get that one in).

Surprisingly, I do agree with you on the quality of games on NBC. For some reason, NBC still seems to be using audio, video, camera angles, sound volumes, graphics, and announcers from back in the 1980s. Miami fans should flip channels occasionally, it is really noticeable.

On a personal level, I'd love to see UM and Notre Dame in a conference together SO WE COULD PLAY EACH OTHER WITH MORE REGULARITY. I can hate ND and still love all those great games from the 1980s. GOOD TIMES!

Great Points; I will add however that NBC does have partial B1G Broadcast rights as part of that conferences multi-network deal.

https://apnews.com/article/college-...s-basketball-4b4daca65e3359ef8ca94f893e4c46e9

"Starting in 2023, NBC will launch “Big Ten Saturday Night” in prime time and broadcast 15-16 games per season. The agreement with NBC also includes eight football games and dozens of men’s and women’s basketball games per season to be exclusively streamed on Peacock, the network’s online subscription service."

It will be interesting to see how the ratings of those games compares to the ND games, how much ad revenue each telecast gets from certain advertisers, etc.

Yeah, and I was a bit clumsy with what I said and how I said it. Meaning, when Notre Dame got the big $$$ extension, NBC had no other college football product. They are starting to get somewhere now, and it will be interesting to see how ratings and demand might impact the NEXT Notre Dame negotiating window for TV rights.

Its not a surprise ND is really good at fencing.

Stabbing people in the back seems like second nature to how they operate.

I have to disagree with you. They want no part of a Big Ten or SEC heavy schedule every year.

They’re perfectly content with all their other sports being in our conference and beating up the bottom feeders of ours, while maintaining their independence.

In my opinion, this will all blow over and they aren’t going anywhere. We are the only conference that has sent dictate so many of their terms.

Mostly because any ACC team we play that is ranked gets preferential treatment by the conference and officials. If they all suck then it’s easier for Miami to avoid getting screwed which we sort of saw play out down the stretch. Once it became apparent that the ACC could be frozen out if Duke won the officiating magically get very fair against VT and Pitt on the road. Scenarios where we normally get screwed immensely.
