Norvell with some interesting team rules

I get it. All those rule are to eliminate the things that say "Look at me!" Its a team and each individual should blend in as one. It is the exact thing we are trying to cure in our locker room. Teams should have similar dress codes, slacks, button up shirt and even a tie when getting off the bus. You want fans to see a team not individuals wearing sweet suits, gold chains, earings, etc. One unit, not individuals. Just my opinion.

**** like this only works if you win.

I think Norvell is a good coach, but I think he might be an NFL-bound guy if he manages to succeed at FSU.

This has nothing to do with earrings. It has to do with control.

If every team rule had to make sense to every member of the team, the team would fall apart. There is one head coach. There are 100 young men who aren't even getting paid to be there. Somehow that head coach has to take charge of the team. That's not easy.

If these kids are questioning every decision made by the coaches, the team will never win.

So you have to set the standard that you do what I tell you, when I tell you, and you don't ask questions. If you don't have that standard set, the organization falls apart.

You use rules like the earring rule to train the kids in to this mindset. It can be earrings, it can be you telling them they have to wear blue shoelaces every Tuesday.... the point isn't that anybody gives a **** about earrings, the point is that you're training the kids to do as they're told without questioning your authority as the coach.

I agree with these rules.

Rules like this have one purpose - to cement the fact that coaches are in charge and to tear down big egos on the team.

You follow the rule not because the rule has to make sense, but because I tell you to follow it.

Frankly, we need some of that discipline on our team.

Randy Shannon didn’t pull the hat rule out of his *** - he learned how to run a disciplined team from Butch Davis and Jimmy Johnson. Shannon did a lot of things right and if he had a better QB, he could have won big here.
LMFAOOOOO SAY SIKE RIGHT NOW

Actually if shannon was allotted more money for an offensive coordinator he would've been straight, j70 was a better qb than ken dorsey. Almost tracked him down in touchdown passes with nowhere near the offensive talent skinny kenny had, the problem like now was the o-line that got left to him. But the o-line players we have now are definitely talented, just needed a common sense oc, coach richt was on his way to getting these o-line boys right.

Is that why he took the interim head coaching position at UF? Because he didn't like the position?

I'm not a mind reader. I don't know if he wants to be a head coach or not. It's possible he took the interim job because he was asked to, because he was the best qualified, and because he felt a duty to the kids he had recruited and coached to be the bridge until a new coach could be put in place.

Shannon wasn't perfect. His biggest failing was that he tied his career to Jacory Harris. But his disciplinary style was one of his strengths in my opinion.

If the portal existed in Shannon's day, and if he could have convinced a better transfer to come in than Jacory Harris, imagine what that team could have done.

This was actually a topic of the podcast last night, though related to us.

I don't know what "leadership" expert is making the rounds in the coaching clinic circuit, but these coaches have completely confused "learned behaviors" (for a reward) with development of habits (intrinsic). It's ******* nuts to me these people get paid millions of dollars a year and don't hire someone who follows actual leadership and skill development science to give them a few pointers. Instead, I can only guess they all pack in a room and listen to some seminar. Because we repeatedly see them attempt (1) to make guys *appear* not *be* more accountable or (2) *appear* not *be* more supportive of their teammates (spontaneous cheering metric).

I don't know if this Norvell dude will be successful or a flop, but a successful culture (the sum of habits) change will NOT come from doing these glorified PE coach initiatives.

Time to go to wherever Nole dams hang out and start spreading posts like, "****, do you believe this?", and, "Who does this guy thinks he is?" You know, stupid, divisive sht like our "fans" post every day.

This has to be a joke.

Randy Shannon was the worst head coach in the modern history of Miami football.
Folden was worse than Shannon imo.

Both were outrageously bad, but I'll take the Shannon era over the Folden era all day.

Folden was excommunicated from College football after his disaster tenure at Miami, Shannon at least still went on to get multiple respectable jobs as a DC & has done well at UCF.

Folden also has the worst point margin loss in school history with the embarrassing 2015 beating by Dabo.

At the end of the day, its his show to run, he's been succcessful before, the only question tgat's important is, can diaz & company out coach his regime. Who's going to have the most disciplined team, diaz or him when we match up, who wins, this guy is no willie taggart, here we got news getting out that several players broke curfew, one, that's on diaz and 2, that type of news getting out shows headcoach weakness! Coach diaz been lost this team when he named jw15 the starter and made matters w I rst by giving transfer tate all that playing time, these players not stupid, coiach diaz can keep diving in the portal all he wants if he doesnt show he has the best interest at heart of the current players that were already on the roster, wont be long before he's on the chopping block, he better wisen up. Its good to create competition, but it damyum show better be True competition, these players not stupid, if perry outshines the new transfer in qb, he better start perry. Same with roche, if somebody else is playing better than him, better start em, otherwise, he'll never be looked at as a legit leader. Cant go round handing out jobs in football.
