Official Norvell Receives Contract Extension

good Chance Lsu blows their doors off in game 1. That MLB they have completely negates Jordan’s running other than maybe a broken play. Their NC dreams are likely over by Monday if week 2. I think they have Clemson early too.

least they waited till he won 10 games there before giving him 8 mill per.

im kidding. this wont end well for them but i also didnt have them winning 10 last year so who knows

Seems a little premature for that type of extension. His overall FSU record isn't great and it remains to be seen whether they turned the corner or were just being slept on by people who had seen the previous 2 years.
Remember Notre Dame extending Charlie Weiss? Not a great move. Norvell got away with some really questionable coaching decisions last year. They did run the ball really well last year. Can they do it again?

Yea. Good for Norvell getting that deal done for himself and I'm not saying they don't have the capability to have a similar type year as last year. I just feel like they won't get the benefit of the doubt of being overlooked. No one feared Jordan Travis throwing the ball going into last season, he proved people wrong. Now there is more film out there. I expect people to adjust. Like you said though they got away with some questionable decisions.

LSU, Southern Miss, @ Clemson before the end of September.

I think Norvell's exceeded expectations, albeit they were low to begin with, especially considering the dumpster fire that was his first two years at the helm. They surprised a lot of people this past year, and Travis made huge strides as a passer. I don't think anybody thought they'd end up 10-3. However, like us in 2017, they had a lot of lucky bounces and breaks in getting to that result. He'll consistently win them 7-8 games a year, with the occasional 9-10 win season when the transfer portal hits work out.

Their biggest issue with long-term success will be recruiting. On average (he's had three full classes at FSU) his class is ranked #19. Nowhere near good enough to get to the level they want to be at. Doesn't help that Mario and even Napier are better recruiters than he is. Their bet seems to be that more wins and good transfer classes will = better HS recruiting, but it hasn't panned out yet. Imho, you either have it as a recruiter or don't. For whatever reason, he doesn't have it.

And some wonder why their athletic department is a mess.
He’s one season removed from losing to Jacksonville St. and they pay him 8mil.

//that said excellent choice!!

They have a good team this year, but are not catching anyone napping anymore. I expect 8-4 for them which will probably still be better than us.

2024 that roster is flipping though, and not in a good way for them.
Yep, they put all their chips in for 2023 and need a homerun. I think they will be good but not playoff good like they are hoping for.

They added a lot of transfer portal talent on top of getting a few draft eligible guys to stay (thats not cheap to do). Plus its already a upperclassman heavy roster. But after this season they are going to get completely gutted. Its like going all in on poker, they need this year to be hugely successful or its back to square one.

Fools gold. 6-6 next year.
No, probably 2024 season. They return most of their team, and it is VERY veteran laden. My only question is whether they have any room for growth, or did they peak with their veteran cast this season.

They were ready to fire him at the beginning of last season. This upcoming season should be his make or break season to get an extension. He does it 2 years in a row? Ok.. then extend him

How many guys will tap out and start getting ready for the draft if they lose to LSU and Clemson early?

Living by the portal....
Michigan State in 2020 - 2-5
Michigan State in 2021 - 11-2
Michigan State in 2022 - 5-7

Success is not sustainable like that.
Anyway, congrats to Coach Cornrows.
Yeah but they didn’t lose majority of those players. They all came back. To me, next year in 2024 is the one to watch for their downfall.

I think they will be good in 2023.

The incompetence in Tally is welcoming. This is a HORRIBLE decision. FSU will be on the hook for 35+ next offseason when they go 8-4 and their fanbase wants him fired. Norvell fleeced them 🤣
