Tears Nole Tears (“Offcial”)

Also, can someone give me a legit argument why the Big Ten or SEC would want FSU rn?

It’d be like picking up the old high school cheerleader because she was hot 15 years ago but now is 200+lbs with two baby daddies.
Northwestern and Rutgers would gladly take them in the B10, while Vandy and Miss St would endorse them in the SEC. They all move up the ladder if you add an extra rung at the bottom.

It's not just "cash-in-pocket", it's (a) the future revenue certainty, and (b) the alum/booster excitement that would be generated.

Right now, F$U is just a motionless ship in still waters. Stuck. No movement.

They need a push (that I'm really hoping they don't get).
Fair points all. I was just implying that it’s not the magic formula that magically gives them the cash on hand. And with their diminishing status, the other danger for them is that ucf may become more attractive to the big ten for their willingness to take less while also bringing an actually significant media rights market with them. The main delusion of the Seminole fanbase is not realizing their media market is not actually desirable for the big ten

Here's a hypothetical question. If you were FSU with the resources that you have, how would you approach recruiting now? Would it be to go after what the old Dolphins GM a dozen years ago used to call "acorns"....i.e., high upside, lower rated kids, and completely avoid the arms race for blue chips? Save your NIL money to re-sign your high school recruits who outperformed?

They can't afford to go after 5 stars - they don't have the money. They're going to have to take the approach that Butch did back in 96-97 when we were short on schollies, were under probation and needless to say, didn't have a lot going for us. He was a master talent evaluator and focused on very high character guys who loved ball and were really solid players. That was easier to luck into back then because of the lack of internet but it requires a keen eye for talent. Norvell is going to have to focus on 2-3 stars and fringe 4 and look for high character guys who can play and maybe are recruiting after thoughts for the big boys.

Recruiting is a different game now. These kids have so many more eyes on them. There's so many services, independent scouts, camps that there's rarely players like Butch had who slipped through the cracks.

That rebuild is going to be seven years minimum

Yeah, that’s never going to happen. Not just because Norvell doesn’t have nearly the eye for talent but because there aren’t nearly as many under-the-radar guys anymore. High school players used to have to rely on their coaches to get attention from schools. And if your coach had no connections or you played for a smaller school, you might never get offered by the big boys. These days every one star backup long snapper has internet highlights.

Maybe someone more familiar with Mike’s contract can fill in the details but I believe I saw that his buyout is really backloaded. Like they’re not saving much money unless they buy out the last year or two only of his deal. I could be wrong here but I believe they saved something like two million dollars by not firing him after last season. If they’re willing to punt on a season and let their program fall even further into the toilet over 2 million dollars, they’re even more broke than we thought they were.
I think they stood to lose a lot more than 2M.

Yes. Then I would look to the portal to up the ceiling. Much like Cignetti’s approach.

norvell isnt a good talent evaluator.

Everyone is in the portal.....they have to have go portal evaluations honestly and not just go after the big names in there there as everyone will push those nil's up....

also the portal works both ways.....they have to spend to keep there guys as well, like the desir twins or whomever they have that stands out will rake them over the coals for their nil as they have leverage.

With us focusing nationally by us there will be plenty florida prospects available to them but they havent been able to even do that because of their poor recruiting staff imo...look at the gators do it really well in this class.

Totally agree but good talent evaluators can STILL find talent out there. There are always gonna be kids who don't camp and don't go on the 7x7 circuits that are under the radar guys.

100%. I just stated what FSU needs to do. They won't be able to do it b/c Norvell is simply not a good talent evaluator.

They are sunk for another 2-3 years at least. I suppose if they make a splash hire this off season, they MIGHT be able to land a decent portal QB but that is a big if. They are really in bad shape.

Hate to see it.

The problem with this style in this era is that the few players that hit will be able to secure a bigger payday from the bigger schools. They’d basically become a g league developmental team.

in all seriousness they are likely sec or bust. anything can happen, but big ten isnt really into governors and legislatures interfering with academics like happened with michigan president and florida job. not taking sides here, just stating thats a concern.

also they do suck now.

Also when looking for "under the radar" talent you have to be able to develop them. Maximize them for all they're worth, FSU doesn't have the staff to do that.

The challenge for them is that even if they identify a clutch of under the radar players and develop them, in the NIL era they will have to fight tooth and claw to keep them.

The next generation of Warchant boys spinning the latest FSU recruiting failures. Calling 3 stars basically 4 stars, and claiming all the recruits love the staff and it's really just NIL that is why any recruit goes elsewhere.

The NIL spin job is crazy, they're in denial and haven't accepted NIL isn't going anywhere.

Think about this.

F$U has 7 commits right now. No 247 blue chips, all 247 3-stars.

Of those 7 commits, only 2 are on offense (Prison Mike's side of the ball). Those 2 recruits are the lowest rated in the class of 7.

This is not going to end well for Prison Mike...

They always talk about NIL like some fracture in college football that will soon be mended and FSU will be shown right for not investing in it at the level of a top program. Like it makes the success of the programs winning right now less than legitimate.

Let's just say the quiet part out loud.

F$U is holding out hope for two bailouts. One from the state of Florida on stadium improvements. The other fromt he Big 10/SEC.

If one or both of those come through, they will have enough available cash to fire Prison Mike.
I’m doubtful on the big ten bailout, because the big ten makes new members buy it with something like a quarter of the payout for ten years or something crazy. They would likely get less from the big ten as a new member than they would from their ACC payout. Would the state be dumb enough to throw them money? Probably

And I’ve met plenty of men who went on to become baby daddy #3
I agree. But in this scenario how many were the rich trust fund kid(The Big Ten)?

Big 10 MIGHT want F$U as part of a larger play within the SE.

SEC MIGHT take F$U as a defensive mechanism if the Big 10 "only" takes Miami in the state of Florida.

Not disagreeing with your "hotness" analogy, but Indiana has proven that even an ugly chick can get hot after the right facelift.
I get it. Their name does hold a ton of weight in the perception of college sports. I just don’t see one of the leagues falling over themselves to a program that is coming up on 13 years since a title who trending in the wrong way at an unprecedented rate.

And to be fair, I would’ve held the same views for Miami as a program if this was a topic of conversation back before Richt got here.
