Because he didn't want to fire his son.Depends on the wording of the contract. If you hire a 90 year old and there is "retirement" offset language, sure.
But I think with Richt we did not anticipate that, thus his "giveback" of the remaining two years was voluntary and generous.
That is a bit different from the concept that if he had been REQUIRED to step down early over a health issue, then the rest of the contract paid out to him would likely have been covered by insurance.
