Nobody feels sorry for us

I think Spafford is that guy who can step up. That big catch against FSU, holding on when he took that shot to the head. I think he gets some quality reps.

Every game is different but BYU, with no LJ Martin and a QB who isn’t even on the same planet as Mensah throwing the ball put up 360 yards, went 8/12 on 3rd down, had 23 first downs and scored 28 points while having 2 turnovers. There’s no reason in the world we can’t expect the same from our offense.

400 yards and 28+ points should be the bar.
This is why I hope we don’t come out conservative in 12 personnel pounding the ball trying to extend the game . That plays into their hands. We have a gun slinger at qb and enough weapons to use 11 , 21 and even 10 personel to exploit them. Mensah is the one guy we can’t lose and the best player In this game. Let him win or lose it .

Fact is they already had all the pressure wired their season being on the line. Now the pressure amped up another notch with no Mali. So that could lead to an A+ performance and a blow out or the pressure leads to busted pipes. Allowing Miami to hang around and them not taking care of business.

By the odds I always viewed this as our lone loss but the same odds said we beat FSU by 21 + and UNC by two TD. There’s zero pressure on Miami and there’s big opportunities for guys to breakout .

IMO Mensah and the DL has to be at their best Saturday night . If that happens all bets are off

There are two choices: feel screwed and pessimistic or get pumped and/or establish optimism.
The gap between pessimism and realism is quite substantial.

We have lost 40% of our receiving production and are playing against a highly motivated opponent looking for revenge from last year and their final attempt at saving their season. We will face the most committed and desperate team on Saturday, whilst we need to completely readjust our defensive scheme and somehow replace the best player in College Football. None of their players possess the talent, production and draws the attention like Toney does for our offense.

Do not get me wrong, I would love for this team to prove me wrong, but based on how dependant we are on #1 and how we are currently playing in all other phases of the game, it would take an excellent performance from every player at every position to make this happen.

We are not the only team on Saturday playing with a chip on our shoulder. But if we win this game Saturday by two possessions, we are winning it all. Best believe that.

And they are missing half their defense. Which gets overlooked.

Guys like Fletcher, Moten and Lightfoot need to have the biggest voices in the room today and through Saturday to have their boys ready. I know Fletcher will lay it all on the line out there this week. Get everyone else on board to go play with their hair on fire!!

I knew I’d see the word realism. This is an emotional rivalry, and losing Toney this week has heightened those emotions. Realism is great but I’m not anticipating much of it this week 😂. Be honest, did U believe that ND would win this game before Toney’s injury? And this news just reinforced/solidified that?

My biggest concern is the pass protection and the defense. Without Toney as his immediate go-to option, Mensah may have to hold onto the ball longer, go through his progressions, and find an open receiver while the defense has more time to pressure him. That puts even more responsibility on the offensive line.

That said, nobody really knew who Toney was before last season, either. Who's to say Wingo, Stafford, or Jacobs can't step up, make a name for themselves, and become the next breakout playmaker? Sometimes all a talented young receiver needs is an opportunity.

I aint reading 7 pages prior, tried, but it is what it is, Dawson gets paid big money and has coached an offense without the generational Mali, he'll figure some new wrinkles out, which may throw off ND, some **** they haven't seen on tape. We have several dynamic players that should share in the load. My gut is telling me Jacobs and Pringle (catching out of the backfield) have a big game. Spafford and Jacobs would stretch the field nicely too. Go Canes.

Everyone needs to put their big boy pants on and that’s not just players , that goes for fans too. Everyone in America is dealing with injuries but most fans don’t pay attention to other programs to notice. Florida has been without their best wr most of the year. Ohio State lost their qb . Texas injury list has enough NIL cash on it to buy new BBL’s and ***** for the entire Kardashian and Jenner families, Caitlyn included. Then there’s the team we’re playing who has 4-5 guys possibly out this week and some for season.

There’s no replacing Mali but in a weird way maybe this takes pressure off the team and galvanizes guys. I’ve seen things like this workout in the short term. Us against the world type motivation.

The defense has already been getting trashed by fans and media (rightfully so). On top of that most had us already losing this game. Now we really have no shot and we lost our entire team with Toney injury. If this culture and team is what we think it is they should be chopping at the bit to step up and prove folks wrong. It’s called house money.

It’s game nine so guys like Spafford and Wingo are no longer Freshmen . It’s your time and this is why you come to a program like Miami.

Yes ,odds are stacked against the team but as I said I’ve seen weird things happen to a team facing adversity. On top of that nobody gives a **** or feels pity for Miami. Just like we didn’t for FSU when they lost Jordan Travis. Injuries are part of the game. Now shoot to survive until Mali comes back.
Our team without Toney is significantly more talented than BYU who beat ND. If we are a championship caliber team, we should win this game without Mali.

I wouldnt mind coming out in 12 or 13 personnel and throwing out of it. Break some tendencies. You know NDs DC is thinking we are going bully ball, so give him the picture thats what you are doing and flip the script. . Give mensah a little extra protection if he needs it, and see if lofton, Briggs, mueller , maybe the backs can find some holes. Its going to be tough on the wrs. Moore is going to be a problem for barkate, assuming moore is healthy. This allows the rest of the secondary to focus on upshaw, Wingo whomever. Try to loosen them up underneath and then when they adjust get the wrs more involved. Wouldn't even hate PA bomb on the opening play to see if you can catch them slipping. There backup #2cb likes to jump routes.

As you say the absolute worst thing is to come out trying to run into 9 man fronts cause they dont respect our wrs and then trying some ****** wr screen when they are all pressed up in our ****.

Serious question, is there one coach in America you’d rather have than Mario as an underdog? These are the exact moments where Mario gets the most out of his teams.

In the last 3 years Mario has been an underdog to Jimbo, Elko, Freeman, Ryan Day & Dabo… and won all of them outright.

Woke up feeling like we ******* roll

Obviously, losing Mali is the dominate story to this point. But not enough is being said about the defensive players Notre Lame will be without. Starting MLB, starting CB and possibly 2 starting DT’s.

Besides Mali, we’ll have the full compliment of players on the #1 offense in the country. I expect Dawson will scheme up plays to take advantage of ND’s weaknesses.

Another obvious concern is our defense. I think they’ll come out with their hair on fire and try to prove they don’t suck as much as we’ve seen the last couple of weeks.

If the defense just plays average (tackle better, get off the field on 3rd down), Miami rolls. ND has a lot of injuries on defense. Our line has been playing better and I think this sets up perfectly for Fletcher and Mallory to set the tone early. A long TD drive in the first Q will take the air out.

I’ve seen some other people mention it so I will echo it as well…let’s see more touches for Lofton, maybe some screens or even runs.

My one concern is you mention the defense playing with their hair on fire…they’ve already been overly aggressive in pursuit and in coverage (cheating), I am hoping they can channel the emotions of this game as well as the eagerness to right the ship, and play disciplined. I really think we can out talent them if we just play disciplined. This doesn’t need to be a high scoring game. Lull them to sleep with the run and set up PA, old fashioned football. Pro style the 2001 canes would be proud of. Get ahead, take away their run game and let the pass rush eat.

No. I felt we had the advantage with Toney, because Toney dictates the entire defense our opponent throws at us. He limits the aggressiveness that defenses play with severely, on top of blitz scheme and coverages.

ND will play us like no team has played us before schematically. We need to be really good in areas where we have not been very good this season.
