TE Njoku Receives High NFL Draft Grade
Miami Hurricanes redshirt sophomore tight end David Njoku has received a high NFL Draft grade a source informed InsideTheU.
Njoku, who had a breakout season with 38 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns, has received a first/second round grade.
With the high grade, Njoku’s final game at Miami is likely to be next week when the Hurricanes (8-4) take on No. 14 West Virginia (10-2) in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Tuesday (5:30 p.m., ESPN).
Njoku’s 654 receiving yards ranks second in the ACC trailing Louisville’s Cole Hikutini’s 656.
Njoku is coming off his best performance of the season catching two passes, both for touchdowns, for 134 yards. He has been very productive during Miami's four-game winning streak to end the regular season catching 17 passes for 308 yards and five touchdowns.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Cedar Grove, N.J. native is an impressive athlete with good speed running in the 4.5 range with the potential of running a sub-4.5.
If Njoku does leave after this season, the Hurricanes would turn to Chris Herndon in 2017. Herndon has caught 25 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns this season. Michael Irvin Jr. and Jovani Haskins will also be counted on to be contributors in their second seasons in Coral Gables.
Njoku could return to Miami to have a chance to play with his younger brother Evidence Njoku, who has verbally committed to Miami and would be a freshman next year.
There are currently five former Miami tight ends in the NFL including Pro Bowler Greg Olsen (Carolina), Jimmy Graham (Seattle), Clive Walford (Oakland), Erik Swoope (Indianapolis), and Asante Cleveland (San Diego).
The NFL Draft is April 27-29. The deadline for underclassmen to declare is Jan. 16.
