Nickel Role

We still have some stuff to work out here.

I think we need Meesh (#0) at Safety, so unless things get even more dangerous at Nickel, I’d hope we can keep him there so he can cover up holes against inside WRs in certain formations.

That said, after looking really solid all year last year on the outside, Porter had some really rough snaps last night against their smaller slot. It happens. Everyone gets beat against some of those routes. Inside WRs are producing at every level of football. That said, we also saw a struggle to exchange responsibilities (I believe ended up in a chunk play at the end of the game), which worries me more.

Not sure we have the experienced personnel to fix this, but in a non-risky game scenario, maybe give Robbie Washington a shot to use his attributes against those slot guys.

Counting on Guidry and crew to come up with something, because the blueprint is there for a QB with any accuracy. We did a much cleaner job against UF.
DP is actually playing out of position; comparing last year to this year. I agree he needs more work if this is his position (nickel) this year but the two positions (boundary vs. nickel corner) isn’t the same.

Georgia Tech, my bad
No worries. That’s good then - we’ll have a lot of time to work on it and solidify it in practice. I was concerned that if you meant VT that it would be cutting it a bit close.

But I honestly don’t know how long this stuff takes.

Completely agree and said as much in the OP re: his role on the outside.
Was hoping Stafford would take a monumental leap this year and fill this role but that’s not really realistic

Damari is gonna be out a while so I think like you’re saying right now we are just going to have to deal with it. Brown had a few throws that were a whisker away from being intercepted but they were in a good rhythm

Exactly. We need another youngster at that position to step up like OJF.

I'm not even sure Robby Washington knows how to back pedal properly yet. He didn't do it once against FAMU - they just had him playing 8 yards off (I think basically just to get him into the game as a CB and seal the transition in his mind / show him what it looks like) the WR for the entire 4Q.

Do you know how long Damari will be out? What is the injury?

I can see us struggling here with Douglas from FSU. Him and toafili have been their entire offense this season, and Douglas has given us fits in the past. Just something to look out for.

We’ve got a legit problem against motion.
They even moved dp2 outside and put richards there.

We have to get that figured out very soon, gtech and Louisville run similar things already.

And these run fits vs outside zone or stretches/sweeps or any **** outside run need fixing…

Please people don’t just tell me bain back will just fix it either it is a scheme issue

Can we fix it?
I’m really not sure the solution is on the roster. I’m not sure Meesh can reasonably move to Nickel bc of our Safety depth. And, I’m not sure we have the athlete necessary to respond to the motion they’re using against our man to man coverages. We occasionally play zone, but sometimes we struggle to pass guys off. I think we’ll need a lot of smoke and mirrors. But, who knows, maybe the coaches get fed up and try something radically different - like RWashington at Nickel or some other risky reconfiguration.
