NFL Combine Thread

All I know is that if he had stayed at CB, he would have not even gotten drafted. People had written Redwine off after his sophomore year..Not saying that was Rumphs fault because Redwine just didn't have the skill set to be cornerback... But give credit where it is due. Banda turned Redwine from being a UFA to a possible top 100 draft pick.

Which is **** good for a kid that was a lower level 3* and was a last minute add-on to that years recruiting class.
Redwine wasn’t nearly as bad at corner in 2016 as you are trying to portray, with that being said moving to safety was great for his career at miami and will be the same in the league .

The athletic comps are not good for Jaquan.

Ahmad Black sticks out like a sore thumb from that list. All-American caliber player. Very undersized. Ran 4.7. Drafted in the 5th Round...out of the league after a cup of coffee.

While D$ brings up a nice positive upside player with Ricardo Allen...that Ahmad Black comparison might be too accurate on the downside.

Really stupid philosophy. Outside throws are harder throws on every level...

Inside throws are easier for any QB to make.

Now I understand why our CB’s give up the inside faster than Vegas hookers.
Came to this thread to write about this exactly. This is a shockingly flawed philosophy. In fact, there are successful defenses everywhere predicated on forcing downfield, outside-the-hash throws, which are lower percentage for a reason. If the thinking is "live to fight another day" by giving up consistent in-breaking pitches and catches, then the "day of death" is almost assured and comes quicker than you think unless you get lucky with a tipped ball, errant play or TFL.

I think this has been adjusted somewhat from 2017 to 2018, but hope it's a significant continued focus. To add the atrocious flaw, I wonder if its root is because an even more ridiculous supportive assumption: "CBs don't have the necessary make up speed to make the throw/catch more difficult if initially beat to the outside." That's garbage. That's why you recruit speed and value cover guys over, or at least even, with Corners who "are physical against the run and bubbles." You don't just value guys who look like you and play your style of boundary corner. This ruined my lunch. **** this.

Winners of the annual "I refuse to believe their combine testing makes any difference" award

2017 - Corn Elder
2018 - Mark Walton
2019 - Jaquan Johnson

Corn Elder was a 16th Percentile cornerback prospect...went in the 5th round after being an First Team All-ACC player. Through two years...an injury and 3 total tackles.

Mark Walton was a 14th Percentile running back prospect...was 4th round pick and as a rookie averaged 2.4 yards per carry.

idk...sometimes testing is telling...especially when players test incredibly poor. It doesn't bat 1.000, but its a nice box to check off.

Exactly. It's not impossible - but players that test that poorly athletically, regardless of how good they were in college, become longshots in the NFL.

We all want them to do well - but it's a uphill battle.

Don't really care if you guys neg me or not, but I'd take Devin White over Devin Bush any day and it's not close. Not only based on the film and production in college, but on the fact LSU sends defensive monsters to the league on the regular and Michigan has close to zero pedigree when it comes to defensive players in the NFL since Charles Woodson. Are there misses? Of course. Barkevious Mingo comes to mind. But if Devin White is there 13th, Miami should take him.

for a cb class with crazy length we seldom put our hands on guys and re routed ..even in press coverage. Now you're seeing there line of thinking is flawed.

That gets thrown out the window...considering Bush is a s.fla kid....i doubt Mich have had much dbs run 4.4's let alone a MLB....Devin Bush is easily the better player. If the Dolphins drafted Devin White i would throw a fit similar to when we drafted a bum de from oregon. He's not a fit for our team at all.

@LuCane @Poptimus @Coach Macho why dont some of yall come over to the WEST ENDZONE an join our NFL MOCK DRAFT
Been part of some of those (NFL, NBA, etc.) in the past. It's a rabbit hole of work loss. Appreciate the offer because I love the WEZ, but the last thing I can afford to do right now is be on a white board at 4AM analyzing 3rd round OL prospects for an internet mock draft. Good luck, mang.

D$ and I used to team up and give so much **** thought to these. In hindsight, kinda ridiculous. That's when I worked at a corp, during grad school or even before in college. I remember one year we argued like crazy and ended up drafting Sean Locklear out of NC State in the later rounds of the Mock Draft. When he had like a 10 year career, we were proud as ****. Smh.

i legit did my homework and drafted a div 3 kid last year..lmao Kid made a roster and i cried

That's a good fit.
I think it'll take a couple years though. In my opinion he has to be retrained. Seahawks like to get their hands on receivers and at Miami we like to play "catch" man.

I think that's why Jackson got beat inside so much. I don't ever recall us allowing him to get his hands on receivers, which would have played into his strengths.
I wish we would do more of jamming at the Los. I figure with all the stunting and blitzing on the front end Diaz doesn't wanna be too aggressive on the back end.

I have to agree. S Florida Lb, that 4.4 got me thinking about that Steelers lb. Besides, LSU usually put solid players in the league, maybe I'm wrong but they don't have a lot of stars compared to the hype they get
