Ive heard it floated that donna liked the idea of the little 35K seat stadium (when the Beckham soccer stadium deal was in play) because she felt that UM could price out the market based fans, creating a game environment for only the campus based fans.

FWIW

Makes sense. Gentrify the fan base and distance yourself from the past while simultaneously selling recruits on "5 rings or rebuilding"

Soo basically keeping out the demographic that actually is the lifeblood of the football program and the families that sent/send their kids to the school, talk about freaking brilliant!

hey, we won 5 championships with are only built in advantage against the established traditions being the state of miami, we have fallen off in the last decade, to make sure we permanently stay down lets distances ourselves from that very fan base!

Thats the type of people running the AD people, lets clap it up for them

The life blood of UM football is the current ACC TV contract. That is what allows donna to execute her marxist ****. Im of the opinion that if UM doesnt get good in football soon, we will see FSU leave for the SEC. That would really hurt the next round of negotiations between ABC and the ACC. If that TV contract goes down, then maybe some folks at UM will want football to improve, but as of now, they simply do not give a rats *** about the program's on field success.

The Miami we grew up loving, the Miami that instilled so much pride in the community, The Miami that instilled fear in opponents, and hatred from those that envied us is officially DEAD.

Donna, I never want to wish harm on anyone but I truly hope you experience something that can compare to the misery that you have had a direct hand in creating. Blake, I do not know how you got this job but I truly hope that when its all said and done, that you are broke, bankrupt, and out of a job. Al, I hope you never ever coach at another major college program again. Get the paycheck now because you sir are a ******* idiot

Why would FSU leave?

They make a ton of money, have little competition and they can easily make the NC game (almost did it again this year). Sounds like a no-brainer.

Side note, there is that huge penalty to leave the conference.

Gonna call BS on that one. I wouldn't doubt that she and a few others were/are on board for a 35-45k stadium w/Beckham because that's about how many fans consistently show up to UM games. It makes good business sense and is kinda the opposite of what a marxist/communist would suggest. But hey, why look at it logically when you can sling some political BS.

If FSU wasnt the returning champs this year, they would have been left out of the final four playoff while being the only undefeated team. Think about that.

FSU is a football school. I can foresee FSU and Vandy swapping conferences down the line.

I don't need to think about it. You made the claim that makes little sense.

The oft-acrimonious relationship between UM and its fanbase is unlike anything else in sports. The only other program I can compare it to is USC, due to being a private school and located in a big metropolitan area; but in the 18 years I've lived here, even when the team stunk, there was a bond between the program and its alumni and non-alumni fanbase that was unbreakable. What's happening right now between UM and the city it inhabits is nothing short of a full-scale disaster.

IMO, USC over the years has done what we have not, and that's to hire athletic directors who are two things: men with lasting ties to the school, and winners who are only interested in winning. By direct comparison, we install greenhorns and cheap suits who say a lot and do nothing, because that's what Donna Shalala wants; a bunch of "yes" men doing her bidding, instead of trying to build a winning legacy.

This article is not correct... according to UM's website on the stadium if you are a Hurricane Club Member or season ticket holder you select your own seat.

http://theusports.com/SunLife/

Look under timeline tab.

Sure you can select your seat, but unlike the past you no longer are guaranteed first dibs on your old seats that you may have held for yrs because someone may now decide to donate more and take them. **** the U AD

VT did the exact same thing when they upgraded their stadium. A lot of people I know let their seats go and now watch from home including co-workers and several family members. The difference is that there isn't much else to do on a Saturday so there were plenty of takers to fill those seats. In our case, it seems like it would end up being the same people buying the seats after all is said and done because we don't have a long line waiting to get seats. So basically nothing lost and nothing gained. Just a really dumb move by the university.

To be fair, USC's hiring practices for AD didn't really pay off until 2001 or so.

Mike Garrett (the AD before Haden, from '93 to 2010) was a USC guy who misfired twice with the hires of John Robinson and Paul Hackett. It wasn't till his third try, when he hired Pete Carroll in 2001, that things started to look up. And then Garrett left in disgrace when the **** hit the fan with Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo--but not before making the really dumb decision to hire Lane Kiffin.

Before Garrett, USC had a decade of mediocrity on the field under Ted Tollner and Larry Smith.
