Ive heard it floated that donna liked the idea of the little 35K seat stadium (when the Beckham soccer stadium deal was in play) because she felt that UM could price out the market based fans, creating a game environment for only the campus based fans.

FWIW

why do we need a bigger stadium than 45k? ppl have been dying for a 45k seat stadium bc thats ALL we have in attendance on a weekly basis. we cant fill SLS, couldnt fill the OB, and wont fill anything more than 40-45K unless its FSU or UF.

In other words, and as evidenced by prior conduct, Donna hates black people from Miami.

And anyone who hangs on her Bullsht about loving multiculturalism and lbgtetc. Is an idiot. This is typical Marxist talk the talk and walk the other way.

The life blood of UM football is the current ACC TV contract. That is what allows donna to execute her marxist ****. Im of the opinion that if UM doesnt get good in football soon, we will see FSU leave for the SEC. That would really hurt the next round of negotiations between ABC and the ACC. If that TV contract goes down, then maybe some folks at UM will want football to improve, but as of now, they simply do not give a rats *** about the program's on field success.

So after finally getting their footing back under them after a decade of mediocrity in football FSU is going to pay $52M to leave the ACC for a conference they'll struggle year in and year out to compete in not only on the field but on the recruiting front?

Sounds about right.

No one is willfully leaving the ACC, but I wouldn't be surprised if the ACC decides to kick us out many years down the line. We're not a top notch academic university and not holding up our part in terms of football success. At this point we serve no purpose to the ACC other than collecting checks.

Maybe the Sun Belt will take us, please.

Soo basically keeping out the demographic that actually is the lifeblood of the football program and the families that sent/send their kids to the school, talk about freaking brilliant!

They only have themselves to blame. They elected Carlos Álvarez (who is on the opposite side of the the political spectrum of Shalala, by the way) and allowed him to tear down the Orange Bowl and starting a chain of events that left Miami in a situation where they don't have a home for themselves.

The oft-acrimonious relationship between UM and its fanbase is unlike anything else in sports. The only other program I can compare it to is USC, due to being a private school and located in a big metropolitan area; but in the 18 years I've lived here, even when the team stunk, there was a bond between the program and its alumni and non-alumni fanbase that was unbreakable. What's happening right now between UM and the city it inhabits is nothing short of a full-scale disaster.

IMO, USC over the years has done what we have not, and that's to hire athletic directors who are two things: men with lasting ties to the school, and winners who are only interested in winning. By direct comparison, we install greenhorns and cheap suits who say a lot and do nothing, because that's what Donna Shalala wants; a bunch of "yes" men doing her bidding, instead of trying to build a winning legacy.

To be fair, USC's hiring practices for AD didn't really pay off until 2001 or so.

Mike Garrett (the AD before Haden, from '93 to 2010) was a USC guy who misfired twice with the hires of John Robinson and Paul Hackett. It wasn't till his third try, when he hired Pete Carroll in 2001, that things started to look up. And then Garrett left in disgrace when the **** hit the fan with Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo--but not before making the really dumb decision to hire Lane Kiffin.

Before Garrett, USC had a decade of mediocrity on the field under Ted Tollner and Larry Smith.

But even when the hires weren't working out, there was never this level of vitriol and mistrust between the fans, the city, and the team. Perhaps people out here simply care less about football than in the South. There's just a different relationship between the Athletic Dept out here and their fans, and I'm quite envious of it. One of these days, I'd like to wake up in a world where the UM bean counters don't continually make decisions and statements that insult the intelligence of the people they're counting on for financial and emotional support.

I hate the admin but um ranks ahead of several ACC schools and brings the big city market of miami. There isno way that happens, no matter how sucky miami gets. See wake forest usually

Likewise, it'd be nice if the fans didn't presume to act like every decision made by the admin was a direct insult to their intelligence.

You know, the type of fan who blames Shalala and the admin for "tearing down the OB" and "forcing us to into Sun Life." The type of fan who can't admit that the move to the ACC was, in fact, a smart decision, and that we were hemorrhaging cash in the dying league that hated us, otherwise known as the Big East. The type of fan who can't admit that Randy Shannon's hire was a logical move at the time, and that the Golden hire was also a logical move. The type of fan who looks at those hires as nothing more than Shalala's "liberal troll" game plan to make PC hires and to willfully destroy the football program.

That type of fan seems to make up a significant part of the UM fan base, at least on message boards.

It's a nasty situation down here, to be sure. But it's certainly not a one-way street.

Makes sense. Gentrify the fan base and distance yourself from the past while simultaneously selling recruits on "5 rings or rebuilding"
base and presenting

"Gentrifying the fan base" and presenting them with an Ivy League style product on the field. Sounds like we should be playing on a damned POLO FIELD! Are these overfed, stupid and overpaid trust fund pr*cks serious? This is just laughable. I'm not watching this chit anymore. Bleep them!

Article is a bunch of crap.

How the Renovations Will Impact Your Seats
The renovation plans are extensive and sections, rows and seat numbers will change, as will the entire configuration of the stadium. Additionally, there will be a significant decrease in the total number of seats in the stadium. These changes will result in all season ticket holders being able to select their new seats during the upcoming Miami Hurricane Select-Your-Seat process.

Select-Your-Seat Process
Every season ticket holder will be assigned a day and time in which they can select their seats, accessible through our online system, over the phone or in person at the Hecht Athletic Center. The order of selections will be set by your 2014 Hurricane Club giving level and your rank within your giving level. Your 2014 giving level is determined by your total 2014 Annual Fund contribution. Your rank within your giving level is determined by your priority points, which are calculated by your gifts to athletics, consecutive years of athletics giving and consecutive years of season ticket purchases.

Gonna call BS on that one. I wouldn't doubt that she and a few others were/are on board for a 35-45k stadium w/Beckham because that's about how many fans consistently show up to UM games. It makes good business sense and is kinda the opposite of what a marxist/communist would suggest. But hey, why look at it logically when you can sling some political BS.

THIS! I hate Donna as much as the rest of us but some of you uneducated plebs need to attend your Sociology or PoliSci 101 classes. Marxism is not left-wing politics. On a political spectrum Marxism falls on the radical/extreme left. Left-wing politics is just right-wing politics pretending to care about social democracy. It's the same ideology and same social/political/cultural/economic paradigm, whereas Marxism seeks to transform said paradigm.

An example of Marxism within the scope of college athletics would be the redistribution of wealth such that the labour force (coaches & athletes) gets paid equivalent to the surplus value generated by their labour (big money TV contracts, ticket sales, etc.) which has historically been seized and withheld by the owners of the means of production (NCAA, conferences, University presidents, etc.). I think we can all agree that this 'Marxism' would be a great thing, I mean **** it's been the driving force of athletics reform for decades with most in the media supporting "pay-for-play" in general at this point.

In other words, and as evidenced by prior conduct, Donna hates black people from Miami.

No, actually Marxism would be the opposite of what you intended to say. Marxists believe in equal opportunity for all races & cultures that work a job. Capitalist politicians are the ones who marginalize low-SES ethnicities.

IDC though carry on being fools if you want to. Just know that your evil nemesis MARXISM is 'responsible' for your favorite players being able to eat bagels with actual spreads on them. You're welcome.
