MEGA New Miami Adidas Ultraboost🔥 - The Shoe and Nike/Adidas Thread.

Well, that deal starts in about a week. The basketball team was literally just in Phoenix for Sec7 sporting Jordan Brand.
Deal was done a month or two ago (give or take). That doesn’t mean they aren’t getting the new gear already behind the scenes.

After 20 years with Nike, i just found out Columbus High is an Adidas school and they’re loving it. The school gets whatever they want and in a matter of weeks. Interesting.

Interesting….especially since they don’t become a Pat Mahomes Gladiator School until……….JULY 1, 2026.

That’s some kind of service Adidas is providing w/o being being official.

Nah, nah, nah homie. That’s not how this works. U just posted “i just found out Columbus High is an Adidas school and they’re loving it. The school gets whatever they want and in a matter of weeks. Interesting.”

I would hope they get whatever they want SINCE THE DEAL HASNT STARTED YET! Ur sentence implies something totally different, & u got caught lying. & just so we’re clear, I know exactly what they’re getting being that my homie is now playing for Mahomes Gladiator School as of July 1, 2026. U don’t have to put 25 on something to try to prove a point that’s easily refuted.

Uhhh...how am I giving Nike too much of a pass and Beta Blake too much credit?

For the record, I'm not worried about agreeing or disagreeing. I'm focused on "did these things actually happen".

Did Beta Blake convert some of our uniform allocations into straight cash payments from 2013 to 2015? Yes. Yes he did.

Thus, the "Nike doesn't love Miami anymore" myth is false, and the desire for Nike to move to a royalty-driven payment methodology was based on that abusive behavior by Beta Blake. And how am I giving Beta Blake "way too much credit"? He wanted to make a name for himself, he wanted a signature move for his legacy. So he signed a seemingly great contract with adidas that promised more than adidas delivered. And then Blake didn't monitor the contract and had to be informed BELATEDLY that adidas was paying Louisville more, in spite of our most-favored-nations clause.

Did adidas violate the terms of our deal by signing Louisville to a more lucrative deal within 2 years of the Miami deal starting and not increasing the compensation paid to Miami? Yes. Yes they did.

And, yes, adidas eventually paid Miami more when we forced them to do so.

Again, I'll make this clear. My concerns with adidas would be removed if (a) there was a vigorous 2-or-more-parties competitive bidding process which adidas won fair-and-square, and (b) adidas delivers what it promises in all years of the contract, not just the couple of years prior to renewal.

While I won't wear the adidas merch until they improve on it, I would be happy with UM picking adidas if those two requirements are met.
This not being competitively bid is the same old mom and pop bull**** that miami has done for a long long time. I thought we were past this type of garbage.

**** shame and truly horrible business practice

Uh well it’s been a done deal for over a year and it’s been known it would be a deal going back to 2024. But it is not in effect until July 1, 2026. As of today, literally no one playing any sport is rocking out in team-issue Adidas gear.

My homey is literally an alumn and has some connections through the athletic side (he played years back) in Columbus. He spoke to someone in the school and said what I shared. Apparently, the school (never said the athletes) is very happy with their relations with Adidas, thus far. I gave an example as to why. Perhaps, my info is bad. Perhaps not. All I know is given how important the connection between Columbus HS, Miami and Inter Miami are, I am not at all surprised to hear Adidas is giving them a lot of love and to make certain folks at all 3 places very happy.

I had no idea Columbus made the switch so all this news was a surprise to me when i heard about it today.

Either way, what exactly am I lying about? That Columbus isn’t getting the gear they requested? What can I possibly get out of lying about that? Hate to burst your corny “gotcha” moment but you got to do better, gang. Not everything is about Nike.

Lemme tell u y this commercial ****ed me TF off:
1. Travis Hunter cost me a Fantasy Football championship by underperforming
2. Rome Odunze cost me a Fantasy Football championship by underperforming
3. Amon Ra-St Brown cost me a Fantasy Football championship by over performing
4. Kyle Pitts Sr cost me a Fantasy Football by underperforming all yr UNTIL I DROPPED HIM, only for him to have a career game ONE FCKING TIME which cost me a chip.
5. Ocho Cinco YEARS AGO cost me a fantasy football championship by dropping a wide open pass & I just needed 2 pts.

Man Fck this commercial & Adidas. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No chance Saint cost you a fantasy championship... He's been an Elite fantasy player.

That makes more sense. When you’re ordering or requesting gear with any apparel company, you need to do it months in advance. I didn’t put two and two together when my boy told me about the switch. Idk why I was surprised by the news. So many schools switching down here.

there's more than just "the deal" and "the uniform", at least if they expect fans to buy the merch.
The thing about this point is for the school, it's currently just not that important of a factor imo. IF we had signed a predominantly royalty based deal and Adidas still was being **** with the merch leading to bad sales, then I think you have a very valid point - Basically if Adidas was Nike and we had the Nike deal it would be a problem. But that's not the case, and from what we know doesn't seem like it's going to be signficantly different if we get an extension. But if Adidas is not making it heavily royalty based, and is not pushing the merch and making it appealing/larger selection/volume/quality... well that is really mostly adidas' problem tbh. For Miami if we sign a massive deal and it isn't royalty heavily specifically from Adidas sales, It genuinely doesn't matter if no fans buys through adidas and instead buys from other vendors.

Honestly.... that logo is bad/ugly imo.

Brother; re-read ur post. Ur implications r not accurate. It’s not really that hard to decipher.

I got love for everyone. I got love for @Rellyrell , I got love for @Hurracanes .

I would imagine that what was INTENDED by your friend's comments is that adidas has been taking on the transitional elements thus far. Shipping the equipment (helmets, shoulder pads, balls, etc.) and doing all of the branding work (maybe repainting the locker rooms and the stadiums/gyms, etc.).

When I interviewed at NASCAR in December 2000-something, everything in the building and at the racetrack was Pepsi-Cola (and had been for nearly 50 years). When I started in January, everything was Coca Cola. A transition like that doesn't happen overnight.

In @Rellyrell 's defense, a lot of the conversation in this thread has focused on this myth that in the last couple of years with Nike, the company "stopped loving Miami" because they didn't give us enough player gear. So in that context, a comment about a school "getting everything they want" EARLY might be viewed a bit differently.

I have seen these types of brand transitions before. Yes, it doesn't all happen on Day 1 of the effective date of the contract. At the same time, we should guard against myths being built up. Everyone knows I have shared accurate information in order to rebut the myth of "Nike didn't love Miami no more" from the dark days of 2013-2015.

At the same time, I'm willing to listen to logic and reason.

I can respect the arguments of "what have you done for me lately" and "but the 2025 uniforms are great" and "but adidas is offering more money".

Similarly, I would hope that others can respect the arguments of "Miami was the first Nike school ever and was legitimized by that 1987 deal" and "let's compare a few bad years in a 28 year deal to 8 bad years out of 11 when trying to figure out who to trust".

And it's hard to compare "what have you done for me lately" when one party has an exclusive deal.

So, yes, I see everyone's points. We all try to do the best we can with the information we have.

I'll leave it at this. At multiple times in my career, I've had to "fire" huge accounting firms. Make a change to another firm. And yet it's a small world, people change jobs and firms all the time, and it's a "Big 4" for a reason. I have tried to dance around the issue for a while, but I'll be direct. I think that a combination of butt-hurt feelings (Beta Blake) and pride (Miami Mafia) have combined to turn UM into Fonzie. Incapable of saying "I was wr-wr-wr-wrong". We didn't take steps to smooth over the past (and who gives a **** whether the blame was 50-50 or 75-25?). The point is, if you are going to create a situation where you have competitive bids in a duopoly, then it can't be a one-sided "just give me your highest bid" mentality.

That's what I've been trying to say (diplomatically) for a while. You can't just sit back and wait for someone to write a number on a piece of paper and then slide it back to you. You have to engage and make amends and figure out a way to potentially do business in the future.

Too many people on this board think The Godfather is the handbook on how to do business. And while The Godfather has many great and quotable lines, it doesn't work very well in real life.

And for the record, The Godfather WAS one of my textbooks in one of my Management classes at UM. No joke. But we used it selectively.

Nope.

Not gonna let you back-pedal your way through a bunch of past nonsense.

You CRAPPED ON the royalty model for years, and now you're going to use royalties to make half a point. Nope.

Also, you are missing the point of the CURRENT deals being signed by Nike. It is no longer "either or". You can actually negotiate a base guarantee AND a high royalty rate. Thus, the discussion from 12 years ago has moved on. The industry has moved on.

Which is why I have NEVER criticized YOUR concession that the contract was too long. Yes. On that we can all agree.

My point on royalties has ALWAYS been the same. Take the 15%. Every other element of the "press-released total advertised value" is illusory and meaningless. I've made it clear FOR YEARS that (outside of the BRAND-NEW NIL elements of 2025 and 2026 deals), traditional all-university-all-apparel deals are 60-70% non-cash. So your 10-year-long reliance on "but adidas guaranteed Miami more money" is just overhyped BS.

Yes, we may never be able to prove that a Nike royalty-heavy deal would have yielded more cash money from 2015 to 2027 for 30-40% of our total deal price, at least when compared to the adidas "just sit back and cash the checks" guaranteed money.

But TODAY, you can have it all. Depending on your up-front cash needs (and we're MIAMI, *****, not F$U), you can trade a few guaranteed dollars for POINTS. In other words, a higher royalty percentage.

Sadly, Miami always seems to shoot itself in the foot when we get our big chances. We locked ourselves into a 12-year apparel deal a few minutes before Fanatics blew up the sports merch industry. We blindly signed a series of GORs and TV contract extensions a few minutes before both conferences and the CFP expanded. And now we are heading into our first real chance to renegotiate our apparel deal in the new era as we blindly rely on the kindness of adidas to make up for the lack of a competitive bidding process.

Good job, good effort...

Does marketing always = Lies

You had 4 words and you still couldn't type something coherent.

And while I think I can figure out what you were trying to say, it's still pretty stupid for adidas Marketing to publish some bull**** storyline that can easily be contradicted by photographic evidence from seven years ago....
