MEGA New Miami Adidas Ultraboost🔥 - The Shoe and Nike/Adidas Thread.

This has nothing to do w Nike v. Adidas as opposed to what I’ve been trying to reiterate as far as business & what’s most important in a contract. This is not even apparel related, but the same principles apply. Hence y I said some of u lack business acumen & would be got immediately.

@TheOriginalCane on slide 5, would u mind sharing what’s most important in this business deal for Mr. Kendrick Lamar?

Ownership of your own creation.

Period.

You make more money betting on yourself and selling your own creation, rather than to take a guaranteed fee from a corporation that profits more from your sales than you do.

PS, I was just having this conversation with a co-worker YESTERDAY. The family that owns NASCAR has its own bank (run by a friend of mine who worked with me at Arthur Andersen). The family has its own ticketing company (no TicketMaster). The family has its own fleet of private jets (the guy who ran the fleet used to come by the corporate offices in his uniform, it was hilarious). The family owns 12 racetracks, more than anyone else. The entire operation was stunning. We didn't need anyone to do anything for NASCAR (except for the audit and the tax returns), the company financed itself and the company kept all the profits. It's un-purchase-able.

I wanted to show u the fundamental difference between Nike’s Hawaii vs. Adidas version of the same jersey.

1st let’s look at Adidas:
IMG_2881.jpeg

On the surface, nothing wrong; just a basic template. Unfortunately, this chasis is one step above their HS level jerseys. As u’ll see there’s no collar, arm sleeves are basic finished w/ a semi breathable material piping.

The Hawai’i graphic is more of a cartoonish font, but the number font is nice.

Now, comparatively with the new Nike unis:

1st thing that stands out is the material used is an upgrade, w/ a collar and placing Hawai’i’s logo in the middle. The other noticeable difference is the shade of green is back to Hawai’i original shade. Adidas’ shade was a more brighter forest green vs. the deeper hunter green (think UofM Adidas’ Sun Yellow vs. Nike’s Maize).

Another difference is Nike corrected both UA & Adidas’ blunder in making sure Hawai’i across the chest was reflective of the jersey number. The old Hawai’i was just in white lettering, while the new Hawai’i is in green outlined in white playing off the number design causing more of a pop on a black canvas.

Lastly, & this probably the most obvious, reinstalling one of the most important symbol in Hawaiian culture, the Kakāu pattern on to their shoulder pads, paying homage to the 808. To UA credit, they did have this on their original jersey (albeit crooked). Adidas had it down their pants leg, but this meant to be on the arm sleeve for cultural purposes.

What often separates Nike from Adidas is details, & material.

It’s not new material; it’s the same material as last season which is y the seams r distorting the numbers & the NOB plate is still a bland font that doesn’t compliment the jersey or its number.

Font is slightly different this year as well. Made the numbers actually fit the jerseys. Adidas has definitely improved but I still can’t wait to see us back in Nike

Adidas 2024-5 is light years better than even Adidas 2022. Still, they have some aesthetics issues, but they’ve come along ways. However, their MLS retro jerseys r el fuego

Yea guess u right last ones were the black ones. But seems like every year they release a UM themed shoe . Last year was so ugly lol

Correct.

Last ones I saw were the "adizero". They have also done an AlphaBounce or two. Plus those "lifestyle" shoes that look like adidas versions of Nike Dunks.

The point is, we have been all over the place with the shoe models. I know there have been player editions of things like Hardens and Dames and Donovans (I own a few of those that I got my hands on).

Nike schools get a more "premium" model (such as the Pegasus) annually. I'm not knocking the UltraBoost, I have multiple UBs (both Miami and non-Miami), I like the shoe a lot. But it is painfully obvious (per various websites) that nearly every adidas Miami shoe model (including most UltraBoosts) end up at clearance prices.

The last shoe that I did NOT see on clearance on CanesWear/AllCanes/Fanatics was the white UltraBoost.

I don’t even care about all the little details (which Nike clearly does better than adidas), I just want our real orange jerseys back. They’re way too bright right now. We’re out here looking like the briefcase in Pulp Fiction.

Yeah, I’ve touched on this a while back. I mentioned what happened w UofM, & now that I’ve revisited Hawaii’s jerseys, the same happened.

Those r the type of details that’s worth noting. Our shades of Orange & Green r off.

Just watched that scene this morning before I left the house for work!

We happy?

Is it true that Nike owns those shades of orange and green? Sounds dumb but would explain why Adidas always gets colors wrong. I remember seeing Michigan fans complain about the shade of blue / yellow used in adidas uniforms before switching to Jordan.

I do not believe they outright-own the colors, they may own a combo of colors/designs.

When I worked for the UM newspaper and yearbook, we had a specific name/color for the green, it was called Biscayne Green.

So it’s kind of a tricky ?; yes & no….to create a certain color palette, it’s a blend. When Nike became the original outfitters, they had the original color templates. Those color templates became proprietary. So even though Michigan’s colors r Navy Blue & Maize, Nike had the formula to create the Maize when Adidas had to mimic w/o having the right combination.

To illustrate think about a gumbo recipe by a world renowned chef:
Their gumbo is 1 of 1, but someone else may come in and try to replicate that recipe w/o knowing the exact measurements of each spice & ingredient. At the end of the day it’s still gumbo, but the flavor profile won’t be the same, something will be just off.

That’s basically Nike’s jerseys vs Adidas; when u do a side by side, even our older joints, u’ll see the shades r just a bit off b/c they don’t have the proprietary shade combos.
